50" rear projection sony HDtv and ghosting when using my ps3

HI, I have a 50" Sony HD tv.  It goes up to 1080i.  Whenever im using my PS3 I get ghosting.  I go to the settings of the playstation, the game settings to be precise and change the upscaling from off to either normal or full screen.  When I do this it fixes the problem, however when you accecpt the changes ghosting comes back.
My tv shows that im using 1080i/60, when you try to change the upscaling from off to either normal or full screen it changes the hdtv setting to 1080i/50. This fixes the issue but as soon as you accept it automatically reverts back to 1080i/60 (this is when the ghosting comes back)
How can I fix this so that I dont get ghosting?

I have exactly the same problem with my Sony 50in Rear projector when viewing with the PS3. When I watch a Blu-ray or use the PS3 menu system (1080i 60Hz), I get it, but when watching a DVD on the PS3 which is upscaled to 1080I 50Hz it is an excellent picture. Same goes fo my Sky HD box that outputs 1080i 50Hz, that is an excellent.

Will try hidden menu suggested below.

To bring up the "service" menu, put the TV in standby mode, then press in sequence :

Onscreen Display ( the little screen with the i+ in it )
5 ( channel number 5 )
Volume Up ( upper end of volume button )
Analogue ( middle top button )

The TV should switch on and when it's warmed up, you should see a screen with lots of big green lettering on it.

Press the "menu" button ( middle bottom )

Use the direction dial to move down to "LCD Drivers" and press right on the dial to enter this menu.

Move down to "S H Pos Reg R". It should be "10", change it to "11". ( Left/Right to adjust )
Move down to "S H Pos Reg G". It should be "10", change it to "11".
Move down to "SHPos Reg B". It should be "10", change it to "11".

Press the menu bottom to drop out of the menus, and the standy button to drop to standby. Switch back on, and hopefully your ghosting will be gone.

Trying to use ps3, even after using hdmi cable on input 6 or 7, it says check your device output and i see green lines on my screen?

There maybe some problem with your TVs resolution. ps3 outputs full hd high resolution video(1080p) through its HDMI. May be your TV is not supporting that resolution. Connect ps3's component video out to your TV's component video input and then try. if it ask for any resolution selection. select 720p or 1080i, above that resolution your TV will not support. Your tv is hd ready one, not full hd. ps3 's HDMI out is full hd (1080p).
or try this
Connect your ps3 to any full hd tv and then goto video setup of ps3. change resolution to 1080i (down scaling ). then connect to your TV via HDMI. surly u will get the video.

Hook up ps3 and appletv to my tv - i have a Sony receiver w/HDMI slots that i am using for the PS3 - i have hooked up the Appletv to the HDMI input 2 on the back of the TV. The PS3 will not show video - i...

There are generally three HDMI slots at the back panel of an HD TV. Make sure you have connected the PS3 and the Apple TV in two separate slots. Sound will work because you must have hooked it up in Audio IN at the back or if you have connected the red and white audio cables in the front panel , the audio will work only on the camera setting on your TV

Screen goes dull at times

The dulling picture really sounds like a lamp failing. You would need the sony lamp xl-2100u
The ghost image may be easier to fix, sometimes as lcds age you will get a slight shift in a color. deep in the sony menu there is a parameter (menu-setup-imageshift) that will give you 3 levels of correction, this may solve this issue.

PS3 not recognized by Mitsubishi WD=52525 tv through HDMI

PS3 has output settings and would need to be adjusted if you are coming from the RCA input. Check out trouble shooting under display problems. I believe the solution is to turn on the PS3 unit and keep holding the I/O button for more than 5 seconds. I had the same issue going the other way.

Good Luck.

Will not display 1080p from a Sony ps3??

Connect your PS3 through the HDMI 2 port on the TV and as a PC under the tv settings. Then auto setup the tv on the PS3 and it will now see it as 1080P. It will give you some error message whenever the PS3 is first turned on but it will work. Hope this helps everyone.

Hooking up my new PS3 to my five year old 55" Mitsubishi HDTV.

The Sony outputs 180P, not 1080i. There is a difference. I don't know what exactly, but Sony says 1080p is for superior.
