I would suspect faulty gas valve coils. These electrical coils are right above the gas valves and when energized, these solenoids open the gas valves and permit gas flow. Due to the difficulty in testing these solenoids, it is recommended that both (all) be replaced at the same time if any are suspected of being faulty. They will most likely come as a set when purchased. Really sorry for your trouble and hope this helped. Best wishes.

Put in new ignator will not lite

Did you follow installation instructions on the ignitor? The pilot light may have gone out. Try turning the gas off to the dryer for a couple minutes and then following the pilot light lighting instructions for the valve assembly. Youtube has many good videos on this as well.

Kenmore 90 series gas dryer no heat

The gas ignitor most likley is not functioning. They do not have a pilot light like appliances in the oold days. They must ignite a new flame each use. if you don't smell gas when you try and use, then it is the ignitor and the computerized sensor tells the gas not to turn on because the initial flame has not been created.

After the initial startit runs for approx. fiv minutes, than flames is off, after a few minutes ignator goes on but no flame.

Hello,

The reason your gas heated dryer starts off heating ok,but a part way through the cycle it is no longer heating as it did when it started,is beacuse the coils that open the gas valve are getting hot and breaking down when they are warm. At start up of cycle the coils are cool, but when the dryer heats up as it runs the coils that are weak can not handle the heat and do not open the gas valve. Replacing the gas valve coils with fresh, strong ones will open the gas valve the entire duration of the drying cycle. All appliance manufactures use the same exact gas valve coils and label them with their unique part number. Having been in the service business i know they are all the same and the part number for the least expensive gas valve coils is 279834
They can be purchased at your local appliance parts store on online at
searspartsdirect.com
repairclinic.com
apwagner.com
apdepot.com
midwestapplianceparts.com

To replace the coils, remove bracket over them(dont worry about where it says dont grip thats for when dryer is plugged in) unplug them and install new ones, that bracket has notches in it and the coils have tabs that inter lock so they position them self exactly where they fit.

This is what the coils looks likeoldtech2332_64.jpg

Wondering if I mounted the flame cutoff sensor in the correct way. Does it mount onto the side of the burner unit? The dryer is now working but seems to be running hot.

The cutoff switch don't control the heat. Just tripps if the dryer overheats. The heat is judged by this cycling thermostatlthemobilian_2742.jpg
Mostly these don't over heat. The probo gonna be up in here:

Heats but wont stay heated

If the flame come on to start with, but then goes out and won't come back on I would suspect you have a bad coil on the gas valve.
If you see the flame cycle on and off, but the flame does come back on again this is normal. The flame needs to cycle on and off and not be on steady or the dryer would get to hot.
If the flame is cycling ok and the cloths just don't get dry then you need to check your dryer and vent for lint build up.

How flem sensor works in furness

After you hearthe click from the ignitor your piolet will light. the flame sensor (mounted next to the piolet (tip in the flame) ) will sence the heat from the piolet sending a milivolt siginal back to the ignation board. once the board knows there is a piolet and the system is safe the main valve will open igniting the burner trays.
