Question about Gateway 400SD4 Notebook

2 Answers

Gateway 400sd4 Hello, I have a gateway 400sd4 laptop that would not power up, so I charged the battery with the AC Adapter and for a few brief tries, I saw the start-up but then when I try again a few moments later, nothing. I hear the cpu fan running, but no lcd. I see the battery indicator light is on as well as the power indicator light, but no LCD. Can it be the inverter board that needs to be replaced? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Power Button is sticking use some to keep button it depressed in and plug in a external monitor put the lid down just enough to activate the external monitor.
if you have orange indicator light on along side the power button
you need to go into the bios and calibrate the battery this might resolve your problem.

Good Luck

You should try plugging in an external CRT or LCD monitor. Most laptops will automatically enable this port when you connect a monitor and reboot, but you may need to hit some combination of keys on the laptop if you don't see anything.

You should try this to see if the laptop is running properly other than the internal LCD or VGA hardware.

I purchased a new adapter and my laptop will still not charge and work.

Try taking out the battery and leaving the adapter in without the battery. If that laptop powers on then try to put the battery back. It is most likely an issue with the motherboard.

Gateway W323-UI1 battery shows charge at 100% but then when unplugged from AC adapter for 10 mins or so it says "critical battery" and if not plugged back into AC adapter right away laptop powers off...

You will need to calibrate the battery. When you boot the laptop, it will say very quickly to enter Setup press F2 (or Delete key) or similar. Do that, you will enter the BIOS. Look for battery calibration and run it. Can take a few hours.

Gateway laptop AC adapter not working

Fixable? Maybe
Sounds like a problem with the power jack on the Motherboard. If so, it is possible to remove the board and replace the jack but this requires soldering skills and is probably not something the average person would want to try.

You might try another adapter to be sure but if it is a motherboard problem the best solution is probably to junk it and buy a new laptop.

Gateway 400SD4 won't power up

replace the battery or have it tested. If these batteries don't have a minimum charge the machine will not boot into windows & will just shut down. You might try checking the battery condition with the "battery conditioner" in the bios

Reseat the memory modules of the computer. Take out the battery and ac adapter before you do it. if this will not work, take out other components of the system like the hard drive, dvd drive and see if you will get any error message on the screen or see if it will display other led codes.

You can download a .pdf service manual from here: http://www.eserviceinfo.com/fulltext.php?search_ft=400sd4 It is a multi-part download so make sure you get all four parts to the manual before you try to open it.
