Question about Acer Aspire 3000 Notebook
I have an Acer Aspire 3000 that does not produce audio but when an error box comes up, the computer beeps. I plugged in speakers, but I am still not able to get sound.
Possible culprits: the drivers for the sound card are not installed, the sound is muted within Windows, or the sound card is damaged.
Start with the easiest thing first. See if your sound is muted. Access the Control Panel and go to Sounds. If the Mute box is checked, uncheck it.
If that fails, check to see if the Device Manager is showing disabled or nonfunctional devices (usually a device with a red X or a yellow dot with a black exclamation point). If its a red X, right click on the device and choose Enable. If its the exclamation point, the drivers are not installed. The easiest way: use Windows Update and let it scan your machine. Install any audio drivers it finds (do the audio driver ONLY).
You'll need an external solution if the device is defective. If the notebook is under warranty, contact the manufacturer for options.
Good luck to you.
