Datamax I-4208 ribbon loading

There are scant directions for loading the ribbon in this Datamax label printer. According to the diagram, I loaded it correctly. I followed and double checked directions for loading my ribbon spool, it appears correct, yet says "ribbon fault".Min you, I am still trying to get a "test page" out of this printer, as it's my first time using one...anyone have directions to a decent diagram for loading this thing?

I HAV A DATAMAX I-CLASS PRINTER IT IS SAYING THAT I HAVE A RIBBON FAULT AND THE PRINTER IS THERMAL

Thermal can mean "Direct Thermal" (no ribbon) or "Thermal Transfer" (with ribbon). If you want to print using Direct Thermal labels you need to select Direct Thermal from Media Settings in the Menu accessed from the Control Panel on the front of the printer. Otherwise, the printer sensors will look for a ribbon that is not there, and you will see an error message.

Adjusting Datamax i class

If the ribbon is moving right on the I-4208 so far that you aren't getting print on the left of your label, the typical solution is to make sure that your ribbon roll is pushed all the way in, as far as it will go (at the top center of the printer on the black hub where the ribbon and it's cardboard core slide on). Similarly, make sure that the used ribbon that is winding on to the Rewind Hub at the top front is also in (to the left) as far as it will go).

What's your problem?replace media sensor in datamax i-4208 label printer

Remove the metal cover by removing the screws along the bottom left edge and one in the rear top right corner, and loosening the ones at the hinge in the top center. Then remove the screw on the media sensor, and pull the ribbon cable out of it's socket. The sensor slides out from the circuit board side of the center plane.

Is there a specific ribbon that is recommended for this printer? We purchase ribbons from Heartland & it appears that the ribbons are wound the opposite direction according to the Data Max installation...

dkrueger105: The correct ribbon for this printer have ink inside, not outside. Change it because that cause a damage in springs in ribbon dispenser. Roberto Martinez

The ribbon is printing blank labels

Is this the correct ribbon for a Datamax? The ribbon (satndard setup) is for the ribbon to inside wound whereas most printers are outside wound.

You can check this by using the sticky side of a label it will pull off ink (turn black) if it is there.

If this is the wrong ribbon do not be tempted to put it in the other way or you could damage the ribbon supply spool.

How to improve the resolution for Datamax I-4208? Can i change my printhead (KPA-104-8MTA4-DMX2 655) for other with more resolution??(I-4406, or A-4408) anyone knows if it works?

1. If your printhead doent have burn element no need to change and if your platen roller is uneven change it.
2. check the setting of your darkness both printer and the job data
3. check the quality of your ribbon and label if this is match. some cheap ribbon is poor on quality.

Display reads ready, but when print is press the labels run but nothing is printed on the labels.

Is your label "direct thermal"? or using a ribbon to print.

If using ribbon, high probability that you install the ribbon the other way around.

Will not feed full length of label. display reads "ribbon fault" datamax i-4208

You may need to take out the whole ribbon assembly by removing 3 screws. The ribbon sensor looks like a L shaped clear plastic glass.

If still not working. buy the ribbon assembly.
