Most likely the 455KHz ceramic resonator is passing DC to the IF amp. The manufacturer says there should be a blocking capacitor in series with it to prevent breakdown; but the Uniden parts tend to leave that out. Put a small cap in series with it -- you'll need steady hands and a fine-tipped soldering iron.

hello there,
Well you have not supplied much information-------- How ever I will give it ago, it seems as if you have a microphone problem. If you have two such radios do the Microphones unplug from the actual Radio, if so interchange them and see if the other Radio produces the same sympton then it's probable it is in the Microphone! If you cannot exchange microphone as I suggest I am afraid it will need servicing by some one confident to carry it out.
Best of luck,
John

SOURCE: Faulty Uniden UHO38SX-2, RX on all the time

Hello jbt3143, Here is a way to find the component that is causing the problem. open up the unit and then turn it on until the problem occurs. Then using freeze spray go in vertical lines from bottom to top of the circuit board until the problem clears. Not the section that causes the symptoms to go away and the by narrowing down the field you should come to one component, replace that component and the retest by turning the unit on and letting it heat up again. I hope this helps, Thank you, Shuttle83 http://www.electron-age-technologies-llc.com

SOURCE: are the red lights on the uniden uh038sx charger

I still don't know if the light is supposed to go out but rereading the info that came with the radios it will take about 16 hours to fully charge the batteries.
I will take that as correct and not worry anyone with the query?
Thanks for responding to my request.

Didyou have any luck resolving this issue? We currently have exactly the same problem

SOURCE: Hello there, I have the Uniden

Hi, in my experience when this type of thing happens and it isn't any stuck keys, wrong settings, etc, then invariably it is the micro controller inside the unit, has got a stuck logic line, or similar. but also it may be almost anything to be true. This type of thing often happens on cordless phones too, and for the same reasons. Those too, like the 2 - way's are very difficult and fiddly to repair and service.
OK well usually if returned to Uniden, and in my experience, they are fast cheap and reliable, to get the best results one MUST contact them and follow their set procedures, if this is done a good result is almost a given. Also you can to i believe, just ask for a "Quote:as to costs too... I have found sometimes manufacturers simply send back a new unit and just charge a reasonable "Fee", and the sender pays shipping.

First thing there are two settings that must be exactly the same or they won't talk to each other. 1st: Channel. You stated above that the channels are the same so lets move on to # 2: Different manufacturers call it different names but what you are looking for is the "privacy code" or "PL". If these are different on the two radios they will never (by theory) talk to each other.
A different "privacy code" allows your family to be close to my family using the same frequency without interfering with each other. In plan english, I won't hear you and you won't hear me because the "privacy code" is different even though the frequency (channel) is the same.

Your radio is either stuck in VOX mode, or has a bad PTT button. Sometimes when using an audio device a radio will stick in Tx if the device is plugged in while the radio is turned on. When using any remote mic, earpiece, headset, or audio device be certain the radio is turned off when plugging or unplugging the device.

If no audio device is being used, the next possibility is a sticky or bad PTT button. This can sometimes be just the external button sticking, or it can be the internal button has simply worn out from repeated use.

One final thought, if your radio has programmable VOX, check to see if your programming is correct. VOX features when turned on make the radio Tx when it hears any sound, a voice or ambient noise can cause the radio to transmit.

Best regards.

3040 ck

Hi,

It's a Uniden model 3040 CK, is this correct, if so then the problem is due to someone or something causing a carrier frequency to be received by your unit, causing the Rx to stay open, the fact you can Tx and Rx the other station you're communicating with, indicates that the radio is working as it should, the problem is caused by external interference and not in your radio.

I hope this has answered your query.

Peter

How to remove RX icon on Uniden UH038SX-2

The RX indicates that it's receiving, as opposed to the TX when it's transmitting. It's normal for one of them to appear on the screen whenever the unit's turned on.

If you need a manual, you may download a copy here.

My digitech dc-1005 will sinc ok ,but one will talk and recieve one way but not the other way, has anyone ant ideas on what could be wrong with them,im thinking the rx or tx on one of them may be ********.

There are 2 oscillator circuits in each unit- one for transmit and one for recieve. It is likely the recieving section of the one that does not recieve the other is slightly out of tune.

How to get rid of static

Your radio allows you to listen for weak signals on

the current channel at the press of a key.

To turn ON the Monitor Mode:

• For brief listening, press MON button. The RX

icon blinks.

• Press and hold MON button for 2 seconds until

two beeps sound for continuous listening. The

receiver circuit stays open, letting both the noise

and weak signals to be heard.

To turn OFF Monitor Mode:

Press MON button to return to "Normal" mode,
and the RX icon stops blinking and disappears.

How to put the police channel on my uniden VH038SX-2NB

Hi Shorty,

Uniden UH038sx-2nb, is the make/model.

Unfortunately, what you have is a designated UHF CB radio, that can't be programmed with frequencies outside of the UHF CB band.
Well, not without stuffing the unit up, anyway.

Why would you want to program police frequencies into a 2-way radio anyway, The fact that police are moving or have moved to digital, means you won't hear anything anyway., so why bother?

That's what radio scanners were used for, until the cops found out, and started changing to Digital mode operations.

I really can't see the point of modifying and most likely destroying an otherwise perfectly working radio.

Sorry, I couldn't be more helpful, but that's life.

Regards,
Peter
