Re: screen is dull when pulled in

Go to the BIOS by pressing F2 at the Dell splash screen and check the setting for the LCD brightness when running on AC power or when running on battery. Make sure that the settings are identical. If it's on level 8 on AC power then place it on level 8 on the battery option for LCD brightness.

Hope this helps!

Hi i have a soney vaio, and when the compter

Does it do this on the wall power supply?, I suspect not?, It may well be in the Power Settings for the system, but if on battery sometimes the screen dulls right down to save battery, and the lower th battery the duller the screen... If at home, it really should be plugged into the adapter, and really only used off adapter when out, not near power. The power settings ACPI and used by Windows. seems to be to dowith it as you say BEFORE Windows loads, it is OK, after it is not, so it must be a Windows setting?

My neices travelmate 2200 screen seems to be rather dull ,even with power unit plugged in and switched on

They are all like this. You can try disabling the dimming function in the bios but it won't help. The screen is simply dull.

I have a hp 6735s laptop that i bought recently and when the adapters not plugged in the screen keeps going bright for a second then dull how do i stop this?

So you mean the screen goes dimmer when you remove the AC POWER ADAPTER?

If so, then this is due to the POWER SAVER mode that most laptops use for when not plugged into AC.

In control panel (if using XP) there should be a POWER MANAGMENT or BATTERY MANAGEMENT icon or section. In here there are usually settings for what you want the laptop to do with regard to power under different scenarios (ie. No adapter, with adapter, etc).

In the settings there should be an option to turn off power saving mode when the AC adapter is not plugged in.

Dull screen

along the bottom row of keys there should be one lable function, along the top row (usually the F- keys) there will be one that looks like a star and another one that looks like a black star, hold the function key down, click on the whiter star and the screen should get brighter.

I had a similar problem before. Try removing the batter pack and use only the power adapter. If it works fine then the problem is your battery and had to be replaced. If not, try changing your power adapter if you have access to a replacement. If it is not available and you are adventurous enough, you have to manually open the wire connecting to your computer (of course you unplug the cable). It is possible that some of the wires are broken due to constant twisting of the cable such that not enough power is delivered to your screen that make it look dull. What I did was cut the damaged portion and reconnect then using a soldering gun.
