Question about Hoover U5172900 Fold Away Widepath Bagless Upright Vacuum

My hoover wide path fold away automatically shuts off as if there is a clog but i have taken it apart and can not locate a clog at all....what could be the problem?

Hi there SmartAlec from NelsonVacuums.com.au here. The most common reason for this problem with this style of vacuum is that the filter is blocked with extremely fine dust. You can test this by removing the filter and running it *NOT BY VACUUMING* without the filter. Just turn it on and let it run for 5 minutes if it does not turn off then your filter is slowing the airflo down so much that it is just like a blockage and the thermal overload is kicking in and shuttin off your vacuum. I have the filters for this vacuum listed on my website if you need to purchase a new one.

If it's brand new your best bet might be taking it to a Hoover service center. That'll have a year warranty on it so the fix would be free.

Does it have a reset button?


There is no reset button on this model. If the motor shut off it is due to the motor getting too hot. This can be caused by poor aire flow, usually afull bag or clogged filters. The vac is designed this way for safety.

Brush on hoover wide path does not spin around.


remove the bottom cover and check the drive belt.if belt is ok then your brush motor could be bad.

I just bought a foldaway hoover with wide path. I plugged it in and started to vacuum and dust flew everywhere. Walmart would not give me my money back so they gave me another hoover foldaway with the wide...


Take to Walmart, plug it in and start to vacuum THEIR floors!
Try removing the dust container and look for anything blocking airflow including the HEPA filter. Make sure the dust cup has a seal where it joins the vacuum. The fix is probably simple, but it shouldn't be up to you to do so!

How do I replace the belt on my hoover wide path fold away vacuum


on this model there will also be 2 more screws at the top near the back on each side. the hood will come off. there will also be a cover over the roller, remove this with 3 screws, this will expose the area of the belt.

Belt replacement Hoover carpet cleaner


Hoover steamvacs don't use belts. If the brushes are not turning, pull the brush block out, turn the machine on and see if the square hole where the brush block was, is turning. If not then the turbine is bad. Sometimes you can take the turbine apart and clean it out. most times I have found , replace it.

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
I would advise that you take it to a authorized vacuum dealer as to he would be able to diagnose the problem better than I, you typically have a one year factory warranty with the Hoover Co and if there is a brushroll / belt problem or motor than it would be covered under the factory warranty other than the belt is NOT covered, it could be something that has not been tightened down or missing some type of gasket or a bad bearing or bushing. If you have problems contact the Hoover Co for a dealer nearest you, or look in the yellow pages for a vacuum dealer nearest you.

Hoover wind tunnel vacuum cleaner shuts off during use


Check the inlet down by the brush roll to make sure it isn't clogged. If not and the hose isn't clogged, then probably the thermo protector (part #28382093) maybe bad. It is mounted near the motor. Could be motor Part #43576188. But I would suspect a clog in the inlet or hose, or the thermo protector has gone bad.
