  1. Turn on the printer. Open the main lid or hatch. Printers come in many shapes and sizes. Look for the main compartment where you think the ink cartridges might be. If you need help, consult the manufacturer's webpage (See resources for popular printer manufacturers.)
  2. Press the lever to open the cartridge housing. Many but not all cartridges are encased in a cartridge housing.
  3. Pull on the cartridge slowly, in an up-and/or-down and outward way. It shouldn't take much effort. If there is a problem removing the cartridge, consult the manufacturer. Do not try to pry or force it out, as this might damage your printer.
  4. Repeat step 3 for every cartridge you need to remove. Some printers have one black and multiple color ink cartridges, while some have one black and one multi-color cartridge.
  5. Shut the hatch and or lid, and turn off the printer.

Both paper jam and ink replacement lights are flashing.

Sounds like print cartridge collided with paper. Open both covers. Try to remove paper carefully without damaging print cartridge. you may need to remove print cartridges to get paper out. Then close every thing without print cartridge in. Reopen covers reinstall print cartridge/s, hopefully, everything returns to normal. It will probably say something about going through the process of realignment.

Tip

Paper jam

Start by following the steps below to get the paper out from the machine.
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
  3. Also open the back cover of the printer if this model has one.
  4. Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
  5. If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it away from light/ sun light to avoid damaging it.
  6. If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
  7. If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. Do this step especially if the jam message comes up repeatedly without any obvious paper jam, there may be a small tear of paper inside.
  8. Ones the printer is free of paper Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
  9. If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
  10. see alternative if the problem is still not solved.

alternative :
Load a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.

Advanced

If that doesn't help then you would have to start taking apart the machine to find the jammed paper and remove it, its not something a just anyone should do unless you have experience.

you may have to take the machine to a repairer to get the jammed paper bits out of the machine, if you don't see paper jammed in the machine it does not mean that there wouldn't be a paper jam somewhere in the unit along the paper path.

I just bought a new cartridge for my 1720 Dell printer two months ago and now the cartridge smears and leaks ink. What do I do?

The first step is to replace your cartridge to see if that cures the problem with your printing results. If you cartridge is leaking ink it definetly needs to be replaced. There really no way to fix a cartridge from leaking so-to-speak. There would be a risk of damaging your printer by fixing your cartridge without the assistance of a technician.
I hope this helps you,

Where do the ink cartriges on a brother mfc 5460cn fo

Your machine is equipped with an ink dot

counter. The ink dot counter automatically

monitors the level of ink in each of the 4

cartridges. When the machine detects an ink

cartridge is running out of ink, the machine

will tell you with a message on the LCD.

The LCD will tell you which ink cartridge is low

or needs replacing. Be sure to follow the LCD

prompts to replace the ink cartridges in the

correct order.

Even though the machine tells you that an ink

cartridge is empty, there will be a small

amount of ink left in the ink cartridge. It is

necessary to keep some ink in the ink

cartridge to prevent air from drying out and

damaging the print head assembly.

a Open the ink cartridge cover.

If one or more ink cartridges are empty,

for example Black, the LCD shows

Ink Empty Black and

Replace Ink.

b Pull the lock release lever down and

take out the ink cartridge for the color
shown on the LCD.

c Open the new ink cartridge bag for the

color shown on the LCD, and then take

out the ink cartridge.
d Remove the protective yellow cap (1).

Note

If the protective yellow caps come off

when you open the bag, the cartridge will

not be damaged.

e Each color has its own correct position.

Insert the ink cartridge in the direction of

the arrow on the label.

f Lift each lock release lever and push it

until it clicks, and then close the ink

cartridge cover.

g If you replaced an ink cartridge, the LCD

may ask you to verify that it was a brand

new one. (For example,

Did You Change Blck?) For each

new cartridge you installed, press 1

(Yes) to automatically reset the ink dot

counter for that color. If the ink cartridge

you installed is not a brand new one, be

sure to press 2 (No).

If you wait until the LCD shows

Near Empty and Ink Empty, the
machine will automatically.

Refilled #4 & #5 Lexmark cartridges and installed them. I get a prompt saying out of ink. What's happening?

Refilled cartridges are a pain. The small circuit board on the cartridge is deformed when you place the new cartridge into the printer. After you refill the cartridge, the same circuit board is then deformed again when it is fitted. If any of those deformations do not line up with the original ones, you get issues like this one or you get dropouts in the printed characters. This is because the circuit is no longer touching the pads on the print carriage. You cannot remove these deformations without damaging the cartridge. My advice is purchase a printer which does not have the print head attached to the cartridge, like a canon ip1000. Look for something that has ink tanks rather then a print cartridge, or only use new cartridges in your lexmark.
