SOURCE: ICE MAKER NOT WORKING

Yes, the ice maker controls the water valve. First check that there is water in the ice maker trays. If there is your valve is not the problem. If not, loosen the fitting on the water line that leads to the water solenoid valve. If you do not find water, check your manual valve that taps into the main water line. If you do have water, it may be that the water inlet above and behind your ice maker is frozen. You can thaw it out with a hair dryer and see if that is the problem. If this model dispenses water through the door, you can find the water solenoid valve behind the unit near the floor and reverse the two plugs on the solenoids. Place a paper towel in the water inlet tube that channels the water into your ice maker. Close the coor and press the water dispenser for 3 seconds. Open the door and see if the paper towel is wet. If it is, the water solenoid is fine. You can also remove the front of the ice maker and put an insulated jumper wire between the T and H test points to see if the unit ice maker will go through its cycle.

SOURCE: Ice maker won't make ice

It sounds like the fill tube coming through the freezer wall is frozen shut. Need to carefully take a hair dryer to it then recheck with wire swap. If you turn i/m off for a couple hours then back on you should be able to watch the fingers go around. If so you module should be good.

If the inlet in the freezer is frozen then the water valve is leaking. Replace the water valve.

The ice maker tells the water valve to open so you will not see the power until the ice maker ask for water. Does the ice maker have ice remaining in the ice slots? When an ice maker produces ice after filling with tap water and then cycles and does not refill with water that is an indication that the=> 2319734 Dual Water Inlet Valve

is defective. Replacing the water valve should get you back into the ice making business. The 2319734 Dual Water Inlet Valve has two sides. One side is for the dispenser and the other side is for the ice maker. When one side goes bad you end up having to change the complete dual valve set. The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze blocking the fill tube and divert the water into the ice bin. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

Water doesn't fill in ice tray seems that the line is frozen

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. If the fill tube at the top rear of the unit is full of ice this is usually caused by the inlet water valve pssing water when it is supposed to be shut off. Here is what you can do to check and see if the inlet water vale is bypassing water when it should be closed.
1. On the back of the unit where the small plastic line connects to the fill tube that gouse from the rear of the cabinet to the ice maker remove the small plastic line. Plate the end of the line in a bucket or large pan for 8 to 10 hours with the ice maker OFF.
2. At the end of the period where you have the removed line in the catch basin / pan or bucket, check for water. If there is water in the catch basin the inlet water valve has failed internally either from age or debris on the diaphram seat.

Since you did not provide a model number, I can not pass you a source for replacement parts or EXACT troubleshooting procedures. However here is a manual that will assist you in trouble shooting:

You could have ice in the water shoot which formed because your inlet valve is clogged. The inlet valve is locater in the back behind access cover. Melt the water shoot with a hairdryer and then replace your inlet valve. Fairly inexpensive and easy to change. The reason the water shoot becomes ice is the inlet valve get slower and slower water flow which gives it time to freeze on the way in to the ice maker. Hope i helped, Rate me.

This would be your inlet valve on the back behind your access panel, or your tube shoot has ice in it. Either way your inlet valve is going bad or completely bad. Rate me if I am correct. Inlet valves run anywhere from 25 to 50 bucks easy to change. Good luck.

My ice maker is not making ice. Where do I start the trouble shoot?

The likely culprit will be a damaged inlet assembly

The water inlet valve is located behind your refrigerator. Find the water supply line coming into the valve and turn it off at the source (typically under the sink). Disconnect the supply line. Remove the screws that secure the inlet valve in place.

The water inlet valve is connected by two wires. Label the wire placement on the water inlet valve before disconnecting the wires. The wires are connected to the terminals with slip on connectors

Firmly pull the connectors off of the terminals (do not pull on the wire). You may need to use a pair of needle-nose pliers to remove the connectors. Inspect the connectors and the terminals for corrosion. If the connectors are corroded they should be replaced.

Inspect the filter screen where the supply line connects. Remove any debris or deposits that may have built up using a toothbrush
or warm running water. If you cannot clear the clog, it will be necessary to replace the valve (the filter is not removable on most inlet valves).

Test the water inlet valve for continuity using a multimeter. Set the multimeter to the ohms setting X100 (if available, otherwise use the nearest ohm setting). Place a probe on each terminal. The multimeter should display a reading of 200 to 500 ohms. Close inspection of the inlet valve and especially the coil may reveal the exact ohm resistance rating to test for. If the water inlet valve does not pass this test, it should be replaced.

Ice Maker Has Stopped Making Ice

Hi: I didn't see the simple first solution to try in your list. The ice maker is thermally protected. It won't make ice until the freezer is at 0degrees F. Set your freezer lower in temperature. It may seem cold to you but it has to be at 0degreesF. Frozen at 32 degrees wont cut it. Please don't open the door every 5 minutes to see if it's made ice, as it will raise the temperature. It appears in your question that you listen for the ice to drop. That's the right way. Give it a day to drop in temp. before resetting the temp. This is a free try before you have to call a technician. I hope this helps, Jeff

I have a 13 year old refrigerator with an icemaker. I installed a water line to get water to the fridge. The hose is connected to the water main and the fridge. I am not getting any ice.

Obviously, your ice maker problem could be any number of things... Now that you have water to the ice maker, is the inlet valve opening to allow water to get to the ice maker itself? If it is, is the line that runs between the inlet valve free to allow water to get to the ice maker? if it is, is the ice maker cycling ( meaning the motor rotates the drive mechanism that times the cycle of opening the valve, rotating the mold tray then releasing the ice with a small mold release heater? An ice maker that's ~ 13 years old probably has a removable front cover so that you can see the drive gears.. Also, is the lever that senses the ice cube bin is over full in a position ( normally down) that allows th eice cube maker to cycle? Hopefully, these simple checks will help you trouble shoot the problem and get your icemaker functioning again. Hope this helps !
