Question about HHP ImageTeam 3800LT (3800ltp-12) Handheld

Imageteam 3800 scanner

I was trying to get the PS2 cable connector on a 3800 scanner off, couldn't and unscrewed the head and the ribbon connector came loose. Can I re-attach it? Where exactly?

For future reference, the cable is easily detached by inserting the straight end of a paper clip into the pinhole at the bottom of the handle where the cable attaches.

I would not recommend attempting to repair this device yourself. You could cause more damage than you already have. Since the device has a 5 year warranty, it may still be under warranty. The charge for reconnecting everything, if there is no damage, should be minimal.

It seems that you have the wrong drivers installed for the printer or they are corrupted. The best thing to do is uninstall and reinstall the printer. You can reinstall it either from the cd that came with the printer or you can download the drivers from HP's website.

there are 2 ribbon cable that connects to the scanner lamp. The one closer to the front is the grounding cable. It connects to the metal plate by a ss plate. You can try fold a piece to fit between the ss plate and the ribbon cable to provide more pressure for the ribbon to the metal plate.

To access the ribbon, you need to take the ADF off by opening the document feeder cover, there is one screw that holds the ADF cover, unscrew that, and pil open the cover, then take the connector off, and then put up the document feeder, there is a lock in the back that u need to use a small screw drive to poke it to take the ADF off. Once the ADF is off, you can unscrew the 2 screws that holds the control panel, then disconnect the connector, then you can unscrew the screws around the glass and u can work on it.

Use a pair of needle nose pliers and grip the connection end of the Ribbon cable by the hard plastic piece.  Insert this cable in the second connector from the front.  The connectors are located under the right edge of the CD drive.

Scanning barcodes with colored background


unfortunately it appears that you do not have sufficient Contrast for your barcodes, this will make scanning them difficult, that with the added issues of wear & fading makes the use of barcoded passcards difficult. it's probably better to use RFID or Magstripe cards for this application
