Wont start if you push the slider in the carb it will start

bill, is the slider, a choke? if so it wont run until you choke it usually means there is some kind of blockage in the carburetor. you may have to clean the bowl and little bolt with holes in it or possibly take off the carburetor and clean it. while it is off go ahead and put a rebuild kit in it. most kits are from $5.00 to $10.00. this should correct your problem. good luck

Cleaning A Small Engine Carburetor

"My small engine will only run at an idle or half choke."

If you are having trouble with your, Trimmer/Weed Eater, Chainsaw, Leaf Blower, running at full speed; or it starts and runs for a few seconds and dies, then you will need to check the fuel lines first, and then the carburetor.

1. Check the Fuel Lines for cracks/breaks. If they are bad then go to: ( www.fixya.com/support/r6078121-fuel_line_relacement_trimmer_weedeater )

If Fuel Lines are o.k., then:

2. Check the Primer Bulb for pin hole(s) or cracks. This will cause it to start and then die. Replace it if it's bad. Try to start before proceeding any further. If you are lucky, this will be your only problem. If the Primer Bulb is fine, then:

3. You will need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carburetor cleaner.

4. Use a Den Tek Brush, ( http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152 ), to clean the small portals in carburetor, including the jet, if there is one. These portals can become blocked.

5. If the carburetor has sat for a few months with old fuel in it, you may have to place the a. in carb. dip before puting the new parts on it. (The fuel turns to varnish over time, causing the carburetor to be paralyzed.) If you don't have carb. dip, you may be able to take the carb. to your local parts store, where they may do it for free.

6. Make sure the small screen, that sets down in a pencil eraser-sized hole, is clean. Take the screen out with a razor blade or utility knife. (Be careful not t scratch the carburetor while doing this.) Make sure that you can see daylight through it. If you have a 3 yr. old machine or older, the screen is probably clogged. You should replace it! This small screen will come with a New Carburetor Kit when you purchase one. The New Carburetor Kit will also come with a diaphragm, gaskets, spring and needle valve, and some other very small parts. If you have a New Carburetor Kit, go ahead and replace it all while you are in there.

7. Reassemble the carburetor.

8. Make sure the air breather is clean.

9. Start like you normally would.

Good Luck!

I picked up a 79 cx500deluxe and it had been setting for 7 years under a taro. i drained the tank cleaned it out and the carbs seem to be fine in that as far as i can see there is no real tarnish or...

One carburetor is fed by the other carburetor. There is probably some blockage in the crossover pipe between the carburetors. You will probably have to take the carburetor rack off and split the carburetors apart to get proper access to the crossover tube, unless you can figure out how to clean out the crossover with out separation. You will need to replace the crossover pipe o-rings if you split the rack. They are only available in expensive Honda carburetor gasket kits. You may be able to purchase the o-rings separately out of a K&L Supply carburetor o-ring kit if your local dealer has one. Other wise an auto store may be able to match up the fuel proof o-rings.

Have a mower that was left out all winter so the gas is bad. mower starts but wont stay running, changed the gas and cleaned the carb a little but still same result

The trick to cleaning the carburetor is to use a carburetor cleaner and wire out the main tube or emulsion tube that feeds fuel to the engine. I always recommend putting a carburetor kit into the engine for safety.

Contact a company like www.arcolawn.com and make sure a briggs and stratton part # 498260 will fit your machine and have it shipped asap to get the job done. Good luck

I tried to start my troy vac/blower and it takes for ever to start and when i used the vacuum it runs slower and finally stalls and wont start backup

Your machine probably needs: 1. the carburetor adjusted 2. The carburetor cleaned 3. A gasket and diaghram kit installed in the carb

1. To adjust: http://www.zamacarb.com/tipspage.html
2. To clean: Remove, disassemble and clean. Here are the carb parts: (Only clean the metal parts)
http://tech.flygsw.org/walbro_tuneup.htm
3. Gasket and diaghragm Kit: You will need to know the carb model (probably a Zama)
Find the model of your repair kit here: http://www.zamacarb.com/pdfs/QuickKit_CR2010.pdf
An RB kit is a complete rebuild kit (contains all the parts in the G & D kit)
A G & D kit is a gasket and diaghragm kit and will cure most of the carbs ills.
Many online vendors sell these and there are an abundance of them on Ebay.

Trouble with carburetor, runs after priming then shuts off.sears push mower model917.382730 installed sears kit need soloution.problem occurs every time it is started.have replaced primer kit which works,...

Sounds like you will need to clean your carburetor.
Be sure to use compressed air to blow out all the fuel and air passages.
After cleaning and before you reassemble the carb, be sure to "set" your float level, turn the carb upside down and make sure the float is LEVEL and not tilting up or down
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor a few times, and letting it run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets, but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
If the mower/weedeater is over a couple years old, then I also recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, You will first seat the jet screws and count the number of turns it takes to seat the jets from their original position.
That way when you go to put the jets back in, you know how many turns they were in/out.

Wont stay running

I hope you haven't slammed it against the concrete yet!! Try this first:

Check the fuel lines for cracks/breaks. If they are o.k., then:

You will need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb.cleaner.Make sure the small screen is free of debris. (Should be able to see daylight through it.)

Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152),to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. Reassemble and start.

If the carb. parts are more than 4 years old, you may have to replace them.

If you need further assistance on:
1. Fuel line replacement or
2. Carburetor kit replacement

Just let me know.

Carburetor problem wont run propley.how do i fix

If you don't spray the rubber parts, you can use carb cleaner. With a bike that old, carb kits would be a great idea though. Try and put an inline fuel filter in there as well as it will help keep the carbs cleaner.
