Question about Canon PIXMA iP4200 InkJet Photo Printer

Paper feeder not working

I have been using my canon printer for 2 months altogether. It's been sitting in the cupboard for over a year so it's out of warranty. It's been working perfectly fine and I haven't been using it that often but one day it just stopped feeding paper. My computer tells me that the printer is out of paper when I send something to print even though there is. the tray is making all the right noises but just not moving to push the paper in. I can't do it manually either. I tried.

That printer has a feed switch which changes from the top feeder to the drawer below, the little light tells you whether to put paper in the top or bottom. either make sure both are loaded or switch to the one that has paper.

Line appears on copies when using the automatic feeder.

You have a piece of dirt or whiteout on the scanner glass. When the paper is moving by, it creates a "Line" if the paper is sitting still on the glass, it may be a dot or it may even use a different glass alltogether for ADF vs Paltten scanning.

Using attachment to print 4x6 photos

The usual cause of this problem is too much 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper in the normal feed slot. Take most or all of the regular paper out of the tray before setting the photo feeder onto the front of the paper slot. When installing the photo feeder, make sure the photo paper container is extended by turning the big dial to the 2 o'clock position, then rotate the dial to the 10 o'clock position after the feeder is in position. Don't overfill either the photo feeder or the regular paper tray. It's pretty fussy about position and fit of the paper in the photo feeder.

Won't Do Anything

For a start, try cleaning the endoer streips located at the back of the carrier cartridge an the encoder wheel for paper feeder alignment.
If nothing happens. try to inspect the rotary wheel situated on the leftmost part of the printer. It should rotate and must be firmly attached to the paper feeder shaft.

Canon i865 6x4 photo tray - knob wont turn to engage paper seems jammed. Thanks

Embarrisingly simple fix. The printer was pushed up close to our wall thus not allowing to the paper feeder sit back normally. Therefore the photo tray was not sitting correcly. Once placed in the proper position, it all worked fine.
Thanks for the response though.
Kind Regards.

Printer jamming

you need to take some rubbing alcohol and clean the paper feeder seems that you might have spilled or gotten old ink on the feeder

printers require a cleaning every 2 months of the feeder wheel with rubbing alcohol even if you dont use often this ensures that your pickup will function properly

My MP510 grabs way to many sheets of paper.

hi i am a Canon certified repair tech for this printer. it seems that your problem is due to a broken sheet feeder unit. what i ahve seem with some new machines is that a plastic shaft that controls ther seperation of the pages breaks. most of these problems occurs with new machine because they are shipped from place to place. if the unit is under a year old it is still under warrenty and can be brought to or shipped to a repair center. even if its not under warrenty any longer you should still call Canon at 1-800-OK-CANON and complain that it has been doing it since you bought it and they will locate the nearest repair center to your location for you. hope this helps.

Can't Print on Card

I had the same problem with my 3 year old HP Officejet 5610. Feeding heavy paper or white card stock would result in a paper jam. The card stock would start to feed, but then stop half way. The pinch rollers seemed to spin without advancing the paper, even if the paper was fed one sheet at a time.

Solution: Clean the rubber pinch rollers with isopropyl rubbing alcohol. Partial disassembly/reassembly required.

To access the rollers, remove the scanner plate:
1. Disconnect power, USB, and phone cables.
2. Open up the scanner sheet feeder by tilting it left.
3. Unlatch the scanner scanner feeder so that it opens completely vertical. Latch is on front hinge only.
4. Remove the 4 corner hex screws on the scanner plate. Remove the 2 hex screws on the sheet feeder. (I used a small flat blade screw driver in the hex heads)
4. Lift the plate and sheet feeder away from printer box. Disconnect the 2 flat cable wires from the circuit board.
5. Scrub rubber pinch rollers with alcohol on a swab. Dry thoughly.
6. Reassemble. (NOTE: This is a good time to clean the underside of the glass plate and the scanner head)

Printer pulling on paper

My husband took the top cover off the printer and took a good look inside with a flashlight. He found a hot pink crayon stuck where the paper feeds through. I guess I should have had a better look initially, since the paper never made it all the way through the printer. Works like a charm now!!
