Question about Refrigerators
Dummy that I am . . . I accidentally punctured the evaporator in my mini fridge (it is the shelf that makes up the bottom of the freezer). When I punctured it, some type of gas (freon?) rushed out. I have access to another fridge, so I may be able to take the evaporator off that one. Any idea how easy it is to swap out this part . . .and do I need to have the system recharged after this.
The system will definitely have to be recharged; the escaped gas was under pressure and you cannot remove the evaporator without losing its charge.
Since labor costs are not cheap, you might consider looking at craigslist for your area and buy a used one. Even new, they are mostly around $100 US which might be $30 higher than your planned evaporator swap.

The best thing to do , is to replace the mini fridge . Due to repair expense of evaporator , evacuation , recharging , refrigerant , sealing up the sealed system . Mini fridge barely costs over $ 100 .
