Faint Black Line down the middle of TV

I have a 42 Aquos LCD and there is a faint black vertical line in the middle of my TV. You can only see it if the background is a light colour. Is there any way to get rid of this or is this the start of a problem with the TV?

same problem. 42 inch sharp. faint black shadow running from top to bottom on the right. you can barely notice it but now its driving me crazy. i tried to isolate any power problems but nothing i try works...its the same on all imputs and from all components

  • Norroy Dec 20, 2007

Yes, we have a similar problem. the line is not always black (sometimes green, red or blue) and it comes and goes. We do not use any gaming system, and the line can be visible, and annoying, but sometimes it is not that visible.

We have a Home theatre system hooked up to the TV, and a satellite service and bought all the expensive cables to hook it all up. Our TV is a BenQ 37" (?). We have tried hooking our cables up to the DVD directly and by-passing satellite and it is still the same.

What about asking for help with a TV problem is an abuse of this site?!!!

Also have a faint vertical line down the center of the screen. Is annoying enough that I contacted Sharp customer support by e-mail.

I, too, am experiencing this problem. For the longest time I thought it was something with my DishNetwork signal. But I got a BluRay for Xmas and it's still there. I've troubleshooted everything else possible...it's definately the TV. I bought the unit in October of 2006, so of course it's an "out of warranty issue for me." I've left messages with a couple auth dealers over the past few days. Once I get the set to one of these guys to diagnose, I'll post what they have to say...if anyone else knows or learns about the issue, please post.

    Thx

    Matt

My sharp was under extended warranty. Bought it Oct. 2006. A repair guy came to the house and diagnosed the problem as being the panel. Sharp doesn't make these, so I was re-imbursed by GEappliances for $1200. to get a new one. That's all they would give me. So I bought the newer version LC-42D64U. Ended up paying another $300. Good news, it came with a blu-ray dvd player free for buying the Sharp!

  • mwood Jan 19, 2008

We also have the same problem with our Sharp 42 inch Aquos, model # LC-42d62du, that we bought in Oct. 2006. We have a gray line running down vertically and across horizontally, noticed it about two weeks ago. Most noticeable when the backgrounds are lighter.

I have the same problem. It is very frustrating. Of course I am out of my warranty range too. Has anyone seen reports of this problem with other LCD TV's? (Samsung?) I will pursue with Circuit City and Sharp and report back in.

  • Anonymous Mar 15, 2008

i have the same problem with the same aquos uk model, the problem lies in the screen, as its made up of two separate panels and its failed at the join, it can't be fixed and needs replacing.

  • Anonymous May 26, 2008

I have the same faint black line running vertically down the middle of the screen on my 42-inch Aquos. Really annoying.

  • 2thMkr Jun 02, 2008

Well, I forgot to report back....but here goes. I called SHARP and told them about the black line one month out of warranty. They didn't want to do anything at first until I "politely" informed them I would tell everyone I know about their so called 20 year TV having problems one year out. They settled by exchanging my set with a refurbished of the same model. They did all the exchanging in my house and the "new" set is working great. I asked them if they ever heard of this problem and of course they said they didn't. ... Good luck everyone...

My 18 month old tv has a burn in line on both left and right side from top to bottom (where edge of black bars are on non hd channels) This week is two new lines appeared. One centered left to right, and one centered top to bottom. I am disgusted. Is there any way to reset tv? Sharp wants me to email pictures to their repair center. Can't get a clear one because of the flash and without a flash picture is dark. Hope someone can help.

I have a verticle line running up the right side of my 32" Westinghouse LCD screen. This happened only 6-7 weeks after I bought it. I thought maybe it would go away but it did not... Interestingly, I found that it is exactly where the screen changes from 'normal' mode to 'extended' view mode.

In other words, when viewing the picture in 480 normal mode, you have black on the left and right side of the picture. At that exact line on the right side, is where the permanent black line appeared.

I called the company, and they said that is it NOT an uncommon problem. He said to fix it, I could hook up the tv to my computer and send an all white picture to it. Essentially, burning out the black line. He also said if I couldn't do that (I don't have that cable currnetly) that I could unplug the tv from the wall for 2-3 days...that should also fix it. As this is my only tv, I can't do that...but I am going on vacation in a couple weeks, and I will unplug it while I am gone.. He said if neither fixed the problem, that I should call back and they would deal with it. It is under warranty thank God.

Maybe someone else can try that on theirs, and see if it fixes the problems for them.

LIARS. All LIARS...
I left TV unplugged for 1 week and I hooked it up to all white picture for 4 hours and not one change.
Don't waste your time trying this, it doesn't work.

I bought the extended warranty package when I bought my BenQ, and lucky I did as the week after I did I found out the unit had been discontinued! (therefore the great price!) Anyway, I called the company (Best Buy) and they sent out a tech...he just left. the problem is in the screen, I am told it is an expensive problem to fix and he suggested that it would be cheaper for the store to replace my set than fix it, so I am awaiting a call from someone to tell me how they will handle it. I will contact the service man and ask for a specific diagnosis and report back. I had marked out on the frame of my TV where I saw the lines and it appearred to me that they were about 1/2 -3/4 of an inch apart, and then there was a space of about three inches and then the same 1/2-3/4 inch area where the lines showed up again. Looking at it from a distance I thought it looked like it might be the florescent tubes in the screen itself. I will repost when I get the diagnosis.

Forgot to get back w/results of my dealing with Best Buy Canada. I called the Burnaby Customer service office and they were exceptionally helpful, and willing to make it right. I was advised to look for a replacement in the same features...of course since I purchased the same features are now comparable to a larger TV, which is the only thing my husband was willing to consider! We spent considerable amount of time in a store ( we could have dealt with it on-line as well) and my husband made his choice. Staff was willing to make a straight trade, but the store manager got involved and almost sunk the whole deal, limiting the size/dollar value comparison. In the end I caved to pressure from my husband who was anxious to get a new TV and we ended up forking over another $800.00 to settle on a 42 inch Samsung that he fell in love with. For all the nasty things I have heard said about Best Buy and their policies I was fully prepared to post a positive and supportive report of my experiences with customer service...and then the store manager got involved and it all went wonky.
Long story shortened...we got a new TV, Best Buy Canada's customer service in Burnaby is a cracker jack bunch of nice guys, store manager's don't seem to be rowing the same boat to happy customer land. Is there an internal problem there boys?
While we were in the store we encountered a number of customers with similar problems, many of whom had the same experience we did with store manager vs customer service.
I will kepp the white screen/computer fix in mind to pass along to the many friends of my husband's who decided that they NEEDED a new LCD after watching ours.

All Sharp Aquos 42 46 52 and 65 inch manufactured in the Kameyama II factory exibit banding problems.
Sharp knows about the factory`s mistakes but they refuse to acknowledge the problems. Thousands of complaints were sent to BBB.

Send a letter (injunction) to their president and ask for an RMA, they will take their product back and they will send you your money back.

I did it and got my money back.

SOURCE: Faint Black Line down the middle of TV

Sounds like it could be pixel problems or board problems, this depend on the location. Most are mostly to the left or right, or going across the set to the upper or more to the lower side. For more info visit ctechnicians.com

I have a brand new 1day old 60inch sharp aquos led tv since we hooked it up it has had a faint greenish line going vertically right in the middle of the screen. nothing makes it go away. do you know what...

This greenish line is due to physical screen damage. This is not repairable and not your fault.

If you didn't drop this tv, then the TV was damaged in the box.

Return your TV to the store you bought it as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the more chance they'll tell you that you damaged the TV and that they're not responsible for customer's physical damage.

Faint black lines going from top to bottom when tv is on for about the first 15 min

If I'm understanding this correctly, you have a faint line, horizontally on the screen that moves vertically right? if so, It's AC noise. If you are mechanically inclined, the quickest fix is to replace your current AC outlet with a GFI outlet. Works 99% of the time. Hope this helps.
