Well I have an Acer Ferrari 3000WLMi, about 3 years old, and have the same problem. It was always very hot when running. But just lately it gets hot enough that it shuts itselff off automatically. If I'm playing flight simulator I get anywhere from 10-60 minutes of playing before it just turns off.
I'm going to buy a cooling pad for laptops I think to see if that makes a difference. Also will try to see if I can clean the fan/vents, but not sure if I can open up the computer?

Another thing that you can do is remove the case, take the copper pipe off the video card and clean it off. Then clean off the video GPU to remove any old thermal transfer solution. Then apply some quick silver and reattach the heat pipe. It's possible that your not getting a proper heat transfer and it's causing the motherboard to overheat since the Radeon x1600 is integrated. I had the same problem, and fixed it by doing this. .

the thing I need more than anything right now. Is a new Lid, hinges, and bezil. If anyone has a dead Ferrari and are willing to seperate themselves from the spare parts. I could really use them. I need most is part 60.FR7V5.004 and 005 which is the Lid cover and Bezil. I can swipe the hinges off a Travelmate 8200 since they use alot of the same case materials.

since the thread was more or less dead, i wonder Thevirus2068 if u think cleaning the machine and maybe re.doing the heatpipe is the solution. i have an ferrair one 200 and with flash applications the thing overheats since the fan doesnt turn on - but with a game (presumably since it uses the graphic card) doesnt. the thing that bothers me is that the fan stays steady at some 50% but wont go full throttle even while I can see that the core temp keeps rising and rising! is there a way to fix that ? speedfancontrol doesnt have acces and the F2 utlitly doesnt show any fan options, is mostly cosmetic - boot menus, passwords

Your Fan speed may not be turning up to the right speed when it gets warm U can look in your bios and check your fan speeds and make sure all are working, and if the fans are ok, try some compressed air for electronics in the fan area and any other vents on the system. Sounds like maybe just dirty inside and can not cool properly. Try that let me know if that helps if not get a fan and run it to cool your laptop I know that sounds crazy but it will cool it down until you can 't get it fixed right, You may have to bring it in and get it fixed from a shop that can take it apart and clean everything inside.

My Acer laptop keeps restarting randomly whenever i use it.

Most likely cause would be overheating due to clogged fan intake/exhaust or failing fan. If you want to tackle yourself Google "disassemble Acer ______ laptop" (insers your model number). You can determine if overheating is likely by carefully blowing some canned air into the fan intake.

Hi, does anyone happen to know why Acer Aspire FO would be shutting down (I assume from overheating because it is quite hot when it happens), sometimes even when there are just a couple of simple...

First try taking off the bottom access panels, and make sure there isn't a large amount of dust/hair that could be preventing it from cooling properly. If everything's clean, you should call Acer ASAP to use your warranty before it expires, as it is probably a hardware problem that isn't user fixable.

Computer shutdown by heat.

The overheating can be caused by :-
The fan has stopped working - needs replacing
The vents and or fan is blocked with dust - needs cleaning
When operating the laptop it needs to be placed on a flat surface so the vents on the bottom of the laptop are ubobstructed.

Screen problems/overheating problems

If it's an overheating problem, updates won't help, cooling will. With the unit turned off, blow out all vents & screens on the bottom, sides & back of the unit. Get a cooling unit to put under the laptop. Mine dropped the temperature about 30 degrees and it hasn't shut off since I started using it.

If it's not from overheating, the way you have Vista setup to view different users windows should be changed.

Laptop Heating up

this is a general problem, with most laptops not just Acer.
the more modern-faster and more memory installed, all contribute to these factors. battery power is standard for lasting anywhere between 45 minutes to 2 hours. 2 main causes of overheating, are that the fan exhaust outlet may be blocked or restricting warm air extraction from the cpu. secondly the heatsink material ( Thermal-Patch Or Paste ) between cpu and heatsink, is insufficient. there are other reasons but these are the 2 most common. if the laptop is warranted, i,d suggest returning it, for repair/replacement. if it isn,t then locate the cpu fan, and clean out any dust build up, usually between the fan and outer casing.

hope this helps you.
