Disconnect from power, and give yourself some room.
remove screws from rear of top and slide top back, then up to remove.
disconnect harness from control panel, etc then remove screws attaching it to frame and set aside.
now you can get to the outer front covers top screws and i believe there are some on the bottom too, but can't be certain from parts blow up photo, may just slip onto a clip.
then the inner drum support will be visible with rollers, seal, etc. and your there.
just watch the metal edges, it is often very sharp from the stamping process that cuts them out.
hope this helps,
best of luck,
ttfn

The machine sounds as though someone is dragging a stick along a metal palisade fence just as it goes into the spin cycle

You probably have some object stuck between the inner and outer drum. You will most likely need to remove the inner drum to get to it, which, depending on the model and type of machine, can be quite a difficult job.

Electric Dryer Model DCSR473EVOWW has loud scraping sound when drum turning .... sounds like metal on metal

There is likely to be something stuck between the inner drum and the outer casing. In my experience this is most commonly the wire from an underwired bra! (belonging to my wife!)

If the inner drum has holes in it feel the surface carefully all over to try to detect a wire or other object protruding into the drum. If you find something it can often be pulled free with a pair of pliers or pincers.

WHEN SPINING MAKING A LOAD NOISE

your drum bearings have gotten water in them from the lip-seal on the drum drive shaft, you need to remove the rear access panel, remove the belt remove the pulley, then remove inner tub and remove the spider that holds the inner drum on,then remove old seal and replace the inner and outer bearings, dont do just the inner bearing as the outer one isn't that expensive and may go out later, and its very labor intensive, anywhere from 2 to 7 hours depending on how stuck the old bearings are in the machine

Have a front loading washing machine, it is making a horrible noise when it turns

Either something has gotten between the inner and outer drums or the inner drum support bearing has gone bad. Almost complete tear-down to fix it. Lift up and down on the inner drum (when machine is off) to see if it seems somewhat loose and makes a clunking sound when you do so. If it does, that indicates a failed shaft bearing.
