Its possible that both jumpers on the drives are set to "master"- I would check and look on the physical drive hard drive to set the jumpers. http://www.pcguide.com/byop/byop_SettingHardDriveJumpers.htm Also try and boot into BIOS at boot (usually by pressing the delete or F2 key and see if you have two drives showing up there. If not then the one not showing up is damaged.

Do Lenovo laptops kill non-Lenovo hard drives?

Yes, I had the same ...
To put things right I downloaded Linux Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/download), burnt it to dvd and used the non-working hard drive as the only master drive, and installed Ubuntu as the operating system. Then I erased Ubuntu by installing Windows XP.

As you already have Windows working on your computer, why not create a 'virtualbox' and install the tech preview inside your current operating system? Search for for Oracle virtual box for Windows hosts (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/virtualbox/downloads/index.html), download it and also download the guest box additions.

That just means if you have say, Windows 7 as your operating system, you create a virtualbox and install another operating system inside that virtualbox. You can run both operating systems at the same time.

If you don't fancy the idea of a virtualbox, you can use the inbuilt Windows disk partitioner to create another drive on your hard drive and install the tech preview there. Your computer will be 'dual boot' ... at start up you choose which operating system to use.

You can do the same using Linux - but be aware that Linux must go on as the SECOND operating system.

Your first port of call is to format those hard drives and put things right.

My mac laptop will not boot up, a white screen comes up then after quite some time a folder with a question mark comes up. My batteries are pretty old, but this happens when it is plugged in.

Two possible things are wrong either your hard drive has failed or your system has corrupted. Put your instal disk in. Start your mac up and hold down the c key. Once it has started check that the hard drive exists by go to the menu bar and selecting the disk utility. If the hard drive shows it means that it is okay. Then run the disk utility check drive and then run the repair permissions. You can then try restarting, if it works then you are back up and running again. If it does not you will need to reinstal your system. You do this by starting up with the instal disk holding down the c key and run the instal script. To keep your hard drive contents you MUST use the preserve users instal which will come up as an option. Do not reformat the hard drive as this will wipe all your information.

If you have been running time machine as your backup operation you could instal a totally clean system and then select the time machine backup once the new system has been laid down using the migration utility in the utilities folder within the applications folder.

If your hard drive does not show up the hard drive is probably a gonner and you will have to purchase a new hard drive and instal a fresh system.

Hope this helps

Have an older T23 IBM Thinkpad. Was running Malwarebyts which I just loaded on the system due to a problem at work and wonted to make sure i was ok at home. System ran for aprox 32 min and apeard to lock...

This is a possibility, the T23 is a very old laptop.
Normal 0 Check the BIOS to see if the hard disk is detected, if not open then re-seat the hard drive.
If the BIOS does not detect this hard drive, then the hard drive is probably faulty.

If it was me, I would not waste my time and money trying to get a new hard drive for this ThinkPad.
Disk drive manufacturers do not make small capacity hard drive anymore and the current range of hard drives won't work in your ThinkPad because the BIOS cannot support these hard drives.

My Hard Drive sector is damage due to system crash, it takes a lot of time to format it. I have also tried check disc tool and try to repair damage sector, but the problem was not solved. System can...

It sounds like your hard drive is slowly reaching the end of its life. How long have you had the hard drive? When you say system crash, was the computer accidentally bumped or moved whilst in operation? If this is the case then this can cause quite serious damage to a hard drive and the disks inside would likely be scratched. It sounds like you will have to replace the hard drive. If can purchase a drive and have someone with technical know how install it for you. Good luck. Andrew

Added a new hard drive to my desktop compaq presario sr1620nx and trying to install my operating system and its says no operating system found or corrupt partition and when i hit r to recover its brings me...

You can't transfer the operating system. You have to reinstall it on the new hard drive. Most of the time the disks that come with a computer are just restore disks. Without the restore partition that comes on the hard drive that came with the computer, those disks are usually useless. Or if you want, you can keep both hard drives, and just setup the jumper settings on the hard drives so that the old hard drive is the primary, and the new one is the secondary. Then you will still have the operating system and you will use the new hard drive for storage.

Pxe-e61 meida cable error

PXE-061 error also know as a "PIXEY" erroroccurs when the system cannot find a bootable device and attempts and FAILs to boot from the Network Adapter. Most newer computer network cards have the ability to boot to an operating system thru the network (A function generally only available over large domain networks).

In your case, the most likely senario is that the hard disk drive has failed.

If this is a portable system, remove and reseat the hard drive, then boot to the SYSTEM BIOS and see if the drive is detected.

If this is a desktop/tower system, open chassis, reseat the power and data cables to the hard drive, then see if the drive is seen in the BIOS.

Ensure the hard drive is the 1st in the boot sequence.

If the system still will not boot to the hard drive, time to replace the hard drive.
