I have a Dell Dimension 4600 with a 2wire modem/router combo. The wireless internet connections work flawlessly with all wireless laptops, phones, games, etc. I cannot access the internet on the pc itself...

You may have a problem with your IP and DNS settings. Please use the instructions below

Go to Control Panel>Network Connections and select your local network.Click Properties, then select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).Click Properties. You will see a window like the one below. Please make sure that the settings are all set to automatic for your IP4 and/or IP6 connections.

If that doesn't work, please try to renew your ip settings.

This can be done with the following steps:
1. Open cmd.exe
Windows XP: Start - Run - cmd.exe
Vista/7: Window Button - type "cmd.exe" - Enter
2. Type "ipconfig/release"
3. Type "ipconfig/renew"
4. Wait for connection to establish.

Every time I run the DSL-504 ADSL2 Ethernet Router CD disc to setup my internet connection, always get the dslultility.exe message say "modam not deteched....." but everything is...

To release and renew IP address, go to Start > Run. Type in CMD and press Enter. At the prompt, type in ipconfig and press Enter. This will display the adapter information such as IP address, Subnet mask, and default gateway.

To view additional information such as Mac address, DNS servers, etc, type in ipconfig /all.

To release IP address, type ipconfig /release.

To renew IP address, type ipconfig /renew.

If you are not able to get an IP address try setting one statically:

Windows 2000

Step 1 Right-click on My Network Places and select Properties.

Step 2 Right-click on the Local Area Connection which represents your network card and select Properties.

Step 3 Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. Enter your IP information for your network.

If connecting to a router, make sure the default gateway and a DNS server is the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1).

Windows XP

Step 4 Click on Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network connections.

Step 5 See Step 2 for Windows 2000 and continue from there.

IP address problem

type "cmd" in the run box (if xp vista is different) this will open the command prompt window. type ipconfig /release make sure you hit the space bar between the g and / or it wont release your old ip. now it should come up in the window with 2 sets of 3 zeroes. now type ipconfig /renew again the space between the g and / you should have a new ip if windows xp or 2000. if Vista you will have to have administrator privilage and not just as the admin user either. the instruction is the same except after you type cmd in the search box the window opens but do not type anything in there. X out of the command box and wait a cpl seconds. click your start button again and see if it dropped the short cut in your primary run box if not get out and click start again until u see the CMD in the start menu window. When u see it RIGHT click that short cut and click "run as administator" it will open the command window up again then follow the same instruction as with XP.

How to change or check the nat settings on my linksys wireless-g broadband router

To check or change the router settings, you need to login to the web interface of the device using a web browser.

The default ip address is 192.168.1.1

The most common default user id is admin and the password is blank (none assigned).

Error in Connecting

without the modem plugged into the troubled computer, go to start -> run.

Type cmd and hit enter. A black window screen will come up. Type ipconfig and hit enter. Without the modem plugged in, your ip address should read 0.0.0.0. If not, you have a manual ip address and need to change it to auto.

To change ip address to auto, (in windows xp) go to start -> control panel, or start -> settings -> control panel.

Double click network connections. Look for your local area connection, right click and click on properties.

A window should popup. Scroll down the list to Internet Protocol and click properties again. Make sure IP address and DNS are both set to automatic.

Need to renew ip address for my emachine T3516

just right click on your local connection on the desktop by the clock and click on "repair". this should clear the cache and renew the IP addy and DNS for yur connection. OR

Follow these steps to quickly release and/or renew the Internet Protocol (IP) address of a computer running Windows XP, Windows 2000, or Windows NT. Here's How:
  1. Click the Start menu button on the Windows taskbar.
  2. Click Run... on this menu.
  3. If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'cmd' (without the quotes) in the text box that appears. A command prompt window appears on the screen.
  4. Type 'ipconfig' (without the quotes) to view the status of the computer's IP address(es).
  5. If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'ipconfig /release' to let go of the address.
  6. Type 'ipconfig /renew' to obtain a new IP address (whether or not the computer is holding a current address).
Tips:
  1. If it is not necessary to view the current IP addresses on a computer, simply type 'ipconfig /release' or 'ipconfig /renew' (without the quotes) in the text box that appears in Step 3.

  2. To bring a computer back onto the network after moving it to a different location, or experiencing an unexpected outage, first release, then renew the IP address. Computers on DHCP networks often (but not always) re-establish network connectivity automatically
