Question about Heating & Cooling

Carrier fa4anf024 blower is not working. Pipes are getting frosty so the compressor must be ok. I hear 'gurgling' from the air handler, but no fan

You can remove the top panel by removing the 5/16 screws his will gain access to motor turn the power off to the unit and check if the motor is hot. if it is let it cool and retest if the motor makes a loud humming noise and does not turn try to manually spin it if it starts up you have a bad capacitor if it wont turn it is seized and the motor will need to be replaced . If it cold and makes no noise you may have a bad blower relay, you will need a volt meter to test. that motor is 240voltmotor

Carrier electric furnace (air handler) stopped running

The 5 amp fuse may be bad, they go quite often, and they are exactly the same as the car ones. Check the fuse with a meter. If its OK turn the unit on and check for voltage going to the blower fan. You should get a reading between at least one pair of wires. The unit should have a schematic on it somewhere, check it to see which wire pairs are used for the variable speeds of the fan.

Check fuses first! If yours is the model with a fuse box you will see a flap that pulls down to reveal a block of fuses, the blade fuse you described is part of it too! Are all fuses ok?

Compressor stopped working. Air handler works okay. Checked wiring in thermostat-that is fine. Air handler is not frozen up. Breaker shows fine on meter.

Hi,
Check for power out of the contactor...is the condenser fan running?? If so then the compressor should have power...could be the compressor capacitor...or a bad compressor.

Problem faced by comperssor

guru, what I think you are asking is how do you know whether the compressor is good. First, you will want to get access to the back of the unit. Once you do, the compressor is the big black thing with the pipes coming out of it. Unplug your fridge for about half an hour. Clean the condenser coil of all dust and dirt. Now, look at the largest pipe coming out of the compressor. If it isn't clean, clean it off. Restart the unit. You should hear a mechanical hum. Be aware that there may be an exposed fan back there. The large pipe should be frosty. After about 5 minutes, the frost should be replaced by ice, water or be drying out. If still frosty, you are low on gas.
