Does it look like there is any hard drive activity when you turn it on? If there is wait a few minutes(about the time it takes to boot up). Then hook up the external monitor and use the FN key and the monitor key(usually F5) to try and toggle thru displays. If you do not get any display then the next step is to remove the memory dimms, hard drive, and cd-rom drive and try to re-boot computer. If you still do not get anything to display then try to reset the cmos with the jumper are remove the watch battery on the board for about 20 seconds then re-install. If that does not work the motherboard may be bad and need replacement.

Remove the battery from the laptop and leave it out for about 30 minutes. turn the laptop on again and see what happens. if it still doesnt work, then, while the laptop is on, find the "reset" button on the bottom of the laptop, IF it has one....it'll be very small and you will have to you either a small pencil or pen, to hold it down, for about 30 seconds. then remove the battery for about 15 seconds again, and power the laptop up again.

if this doesnt fix the problem, then its time to exercise your warranty, or call the manufacturer.

I have a XPS M1530 the screen is black I press the power button for a second it stay on everything lights up sounds and feels like its on gets warm but nothing on the screen Itrying everything taking out...

You either have a Video Card problem or an issue with your LCD Screen.

Does it every post anything to the screen? If nothing ever posts on the screen when you hit the power button and it will not do anything with an external monitor, then your Video Card is bad. I wonder if you have the Nvidia Graphics Video card on your system?

If it seems like the laptop booted up all the way (you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, see lights) but the screen is black then try the steps below.

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barely see the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves your video card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash light and nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card is bad.

Monitor will not turn on

Monitor will not turn on as in NO Power? When you hit the Power Button the monitor power light does not come on? If so either the power cord is not plugged in good, maybe the outlet you have it plugged into the wall or power strip is not working, or the Monitor is bad and needs to be replaced.

If you are saying the monitor has power but the display is black then:
Look to see if it sounds like the computer is running but nothing is shown on the screen. If so try this:

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barelysee the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can beany kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vgacable to connect to your computer's vga port. My laptop not showing anything after switchng on

So, is it powering on and sounds like it's booting up but there is nothing on the display screen? Or is it just not powering on at all?

I will assume it is powering on and booting up, but you don't see anything on the lcd screen.

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barelysee the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

My laptop Gateway ml6720 has a black screen Ive replaced the battery and power adapter no change. The fan comes on and it sounds like it boots up but no screen.

Sounds like either the screen or the video adapter has gone bad.
Do this: Connect the computer to an external monitor (there is a SVGA plug on the side of the computer. Be sure when you turn it on that you press teh Fn-special function key combo that switches the video output to the external monitor. If the external monitor works, then it's your computer's screen. Possibly the inverter. If the external monitor shows nothing, then it's the video card (which may be built into your motherboard).

My toshiba l500-02h is only showing blank page with booting.

Hello, Does it sit there and do nothing? Sometimes all that is needed is the battery pulled (disconnect power cord as well) Press and hold the power button down for about 5 seconds. Put battery back in and connect power cord. Now try booting. If nothing shows on the screen, the next step would be to connect an external monitor or TV (if you have one) to the VGA or HDMI port. If a picture shows on the monitor / TV but still not on the laptop, you may have a burnt out display... which is expensive to fix. You may find some good prices for screens on dbay.

We have the monitor hooked to a docking station for a laptop. I can not view the screen on the Viewsonic, but does display on laptop. I have been able to do an extende monitor view, but not the main view....

when you connect external monitor to a laptop u get two options in the monitor section of graphic properties tab

1.) extended
2.) clone

it is clear from ur post that u are using extended view

try using clone mode then both laptop screen and external monitor will show the main screen

other method is to disable the laptop screen and just allow external monitor to work, in this case laptop screen shows nothing but external monitor shows main screen

Data Shows up only on External Monitor, not on Laptop Screen

If your system won't display anything w/o the external monitor. there's something wrong with the LCD's backlight. you may have to contact your laptop's manufacturer and check if this laptop is still under warranty. you may have to get the lcd replaced.

thanks.

No Power LED and Nothing on the screen

Check your power supply to your screen cause it should at least show a amber light at the screen to show that there is power but no proper signal from the computer.

So below are step to check the power supply to your monitor. Assuming if you use a different monitor on your pc it works

1. Check your fuse both internal and external
2. check if power is receipted by the LCD
