Question about Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Calculator

1 Answer

This calculator has not been used in over 5 months, when i go to turn it on: it seems like there are some photographical errors. Pixels are not clearing when I hit "clear" they seem to only go away once they are typed over. In addition only the left hand side of the screen displays anything at all.

I stop using my TI-86 for a few months and know

I hadn't used mine in years and had the same problem. Essentially you just need to give it a workout to get all the pixels working properly again and then it'll be just fine. I adjusted the contrast between full dark and nothing multiple times and turned the calculator on and off after each cycle and now it works like new.

Black lines in pictures printed from Artisan 800

I have the same issue, It seems 1 line of pixels is overlapping with the next set of pixels and makes a dark line horizontally.

First time used in months

Check the batteries polarity.
Perhaps it needs a "reset", some calcs do have a "button" therefor, some do if you press the start button for some seconds.
Try to leave the calc overnight without any batt. inside.

5 column pixels missing

This sounds very much like the conductive rubber strip that is between the LCD display and PCB is not making contact. This can happen if the calculator has been dropped or bent.

Dead Pixels?

I've heard that if you press on the dead pixels with your finger for a few seconds, sometimes they go away. I've also heard if you get a damp cloth, turn the screen off, press it on the dead pixels, turn the thing on, and remove the cloth, they might also go away.

Resolution of Stiil Photographs.

the resolutiion dpi has little to do with the camera, its more about printing/displaying - that is just the screen display resolution. you can change that to 300 PPI (DPI) in most imaging applications. the important thing is the pixels you have length and width so 1000 pixels x 1000 pixels is the key to this whats the max pixels of the camera - that would give you the resolution. now to print an image onto paper the acceoted standard for top quality is 300 PPI so 1000 pixels width divided by 300 pixels per inch ppi = 3.3 so you can print at 3.3 inches. Now you may even be able to get away with as low as 180 PPI on some prints and depending on how far away it will be viewed - so this needs to be played with. - can you reply here - with a comment and tell us 1) how many pixels you have 2) what image editing software you are using 3) how big you would like to print

Random characters lines and pixels

I've had a similar problem in the past with my TI-86. It still happens sometimes when I don't use it for a while. To fix it, all I did was set the screen to its darkest setting and left it on for 10 minutes (keep it from turning itself off, by pushing buttons every few minutes.) It works great, and the calculator is fine unless you leave it unused for a month or so. A similar solution may work for you.
