Make sure that the output from the diecttv reciever is not on a format that your telivision cannot handle. It is usually because the reciever is set for 1080p and your tv can only process 1080i(i=interlaced & p=progressive scan). Verify that this is not happening. Also try a different HDMI cable. The one that you are using might be bad.

It sounds like the resolution is set too high. try turning it down to something lower on both units and see how that works. also, the sound format might be in the wrong format as well. both of these options can be configured in their respective "system settings".

How do i FIX THE COLOR PROBLEMS I HAVE WHILE WATCHING DIRECT TV? Dynex DX-L42-10A 42 in. LCD TV

My guess is that your DirecTV box is outputting in a format your television does not recognize. Some models of the DirecTV box have a button on the front of the box for formats (480,720,1080) and you may be able to press that button until the picture comes in clear.

If there is no button:

1: Try an alternative connection tyoe to the TV from the box (if available, like RCA or coax), then switch the TV to that new input. If you get a clear picture with that connection, then in the settings menu for the receiver there should be format settings where you can select which formats to output. one of the selected formats chosen would be causing the problem. Change or remove one of the formats. (. I.e. if 720 is selected, deselect it.) After that switch back to the original connection and input to test.

or 2: The DirecTV box could be connected to a different TV and in the settings menu for the receiver there should be format settings where you can select which formats to output.

Another unlikely possibility is that the HDMI cable or slot on the TV itself is bad. Try switching the cable or try a different slot in the TV if available.

Samsung LCD TV LN40A550P3F will not support 1080 format when hooked up to HDMI via Directv receiver.

Hi, is the directv box giving out 1080? There is an option on the box to select between 480, 720, 1080.
Also the tv has the same option.

I have a Yamaha HTR-5440 receiver and I want to connect it to my Directtv Plus HD DVR satilite receiver what do I need

If your yamaha receiver has Hdmi upconversion and HDMI pass through you should only need an HDMI cable. One from the directv receiver to the Yamaha Receiver and another from the yamaha receiver to the tv. If it does not have HDMI then you'll need component video cables and 1 optical cable.

I have a Mitsubishi WD-62525, and when the Directv installer came out, he said that he could not connect the box to my tv because he didn't know how to get my tv in HDMI mode. From what I am reading, it...

Your right connect the HDMI output from the directv receiver to an HDMI input on your tv. Change the tv input to the HDMI input and it should work. If your tv does not have HDMI input then it should have component input indentified as red blue green connectors on the back of tv. This is for video only. Connect the red and white for audio using the yellow/red/white cable that was included with receiver. The red blue green cable is also included with receiver as well as the HDMI cable. Did this installer educate you on how to use your directv equipment. If you are paying for HD access but your receiver is not connected the an HD input on your tv then you are not getting what you are paying for. This should of been resolved during the installation. The installer either is incompentant or just did not care. Call directv and demand them to make their receiver work with your tv if this means a field supervisor tech being sent out to correct this.

DVR/TV connection

With the RGB you have to run seperate audio ,I think you have ran the seperate cables for the sound but they are in the wrong place.try changing the RW from the DVR to the TV and you should get sound from them. The unfortunate truth about the HDMI is that the HDMI format has a problem effectivly communicating between components.I am a Directv certified High Definition technition and %50 of the TV's that I connect the HDMI to will not receive the signal. One trick that I have found that works is to make sure you have a picture on the RGB then connect the HDMI.Once you have these connected ,turn your TV off and unplug the power cord from the DVR for 30 sec then plug the DVR in and wait 5 minutes for it to power up then turn your TV on and switch to your HDMI input. This method sometimes works to "Jumpstart" the HDMI input on the TV .There is no guarantee that this will work but is sounds like for now this is your only option,GOOD LUCK.
