USB ports not working DV 1000

Hi, I have an HP DV1000, and amoung other issues, the usb ports (all 3!) are now pretty much dead. 2 are totally loose and moving off the motherboard, 1 will work when held in one way or another. Called tech support and was told maybe 300+ to fix, if fixable. Is there another way to get a usb port via adapter through another port? thanks, appreciate any help - ready to take a hammer to it!

I have an hp pavilion as well and none of my 4 ports seem to work either, device manager states that devices are all working properlly but it does not recognize the printer, camera or i pod when connected.

HP DV1000 won't run normal after a forced shutdown

For this kind of issue, please follow up the following steps to check:
1.confirm the battery and ac adapter connect the laptop normally.Maybe the bad connect lead to this problem. If there are no lights when you turn on laptop, one of possible reason is that your adapter is malfunction.

2.the second possible cause is laptop dc jack failure. If the dc jack is broken or loose, you are required to replace it or repair it.

3.Another possible reason is that there is something wrong with laptop motherboard. For this situation, it includs two kinds of possibility,a failure in an electronic circuit and BGA malfunction.

For more detailed reasons and solutions, please have a look at the following article:

My usb ports don't work. I was told the problem is with my motherboard. Is it worth fixing; is there another way to fix it. hp pavilion dv1000

Faith,

It does indeed sound like there is an issue with the motherboard. On a laptop, almost everything is part of the motherboard, so when one part on it goes bad, typically the whole board needs to be replaced. That said, given the age of the laptop, a new purchase would be advised over repair. If neither is a good option for you right now, you could consider adding new USB ports to the laptop via a "PC Card" expansion. An example of this product can be found here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16839156006&cm_re=pc_card_usb-_-39-156-006-_-Product

It is not difficult to install, and slides into the side of your laptop. There is probably a plastic placeholder there now to keep the slot covered.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Thank you.

Need to replace usb ports dv1000

If the problem is with the ports themselves, you may not be able to or be willing to resolder them. How about just adding a USB card to get by?

RE: HP laptop no power

Give this a try -

1. Unplug all usb devices.(Printers, MP3 players, webcams, etc etc)

2. Remove the battery and power cable.

3. Press and hold the power button for 30sec.

4. Plug in just the cable (no battery)

If this doesnt work then it most likely needs a repair.

Also check the USB & power port for damage or if the charger jack is loose when you plug it in.

You have to look for a bad connection on MB. You have a broken trace from openning and closing. You need micro-soldering iron to fix it.

USB ports not working DV 1000

I just fixed this problem on my dv1000. The problem I found was apparently the USB ports on lower right and left side only mounted on the mobo with light soldering and no soldering on the other side of mobo. Due to heat I guessed, they came loose. I opened the mobo (using guide from a pdf file on the net, sorry i forgot the exact guide but you can ask uncle google).
I took the mobo out and resolder those two ports with plenty of solder from the top surface only of the mobo as I unable to access the other side. Now they work again like charm.
The top right USB is different beast. It is on different card along with S-Video port and apparently in permanent damage.
