Hi, I have an HP DV1000, and amoung other issues, the usb ports (all 3!) are now pretty much dead. 2 are totally loose and moving off the motherboard, 1 will work when held in one way or another. Called tech support and was told maybe 300+ to fix, if fixable. Is there another way to get a usb port via adapter through another port? thanks, appreciate any help - ready to take a hammer to it!
I have an hp pavilion as well and none of my 4 ports seem to work either, device manager states that devices are all working properlly but it does not recognize the printer, camera or i pod when connected.

NO! You will damage one or both computers. You really need to repair the laptop or ac adapter to correct the charging problem. The HP dv 1000 as well as the other HP entertainment laptops have had a lot of problems. Not charging just one of them. I would strongly suggest a professional repair of this laptop.

I just fixed this problem on my dv1000. The problem I found was apparently the USB ports on lower right and left side only mounted on the mobo with light soldering and no soldering on the other side of mobo. Due to heat I guessed, they came loose. I opened the mobo (using guide from a pdf file on the net, sorry i forgot the exact guide but you can ask uncle google). I took the mobo out and resolder those two ports with plenty of solder from the top surface only of the mobo as I unable to access the other side. Now they work again like charm. The top right USB is different beast. It is on different card along with S-Video port and apparently in permanent damage.
