Question about Homelite Expand-It Hedge Trimmer Attachment

The cutting blade no longer moves, even when it is attached to the drive engine and the engine is running at high rpms. I think some kind of gear inside must be stripped out.

The gear linkage seems to be broken. Remove the cover on the bottem of the gearbox, its held on with 6 or 8 small screws and check inside. you can pick parts up at any repair or hire shop. Stephen.

The pto switch broke how can I rig it to turn the blades on to cut

I dont think you'll be able to rig this to run with blades like your thinking. the pto usually is a lever that moves/puts pressure against the pulleys then against the belt, which in turn drives the blades. you could probably look at the pulley configuration on your mower and buy a belt that would go from the main drive pulley to the blades and go direct, or devise a chain gear system in place of the pulleys. only problem with that is the blades are constantly moving, increasing risk of injury to yourself or others who may not know about your special set-up

Engine runs but blades dont move

John:

My bet is that the drive gears are stripped. Lay the machine on it's back and see the 4 screws that hold the sole plate on to the body of the machine, (The sole plate is also the bottom cutting frame that the blade slides against). Remove the 4 screws (be careful... there will be a small circular bushing under the sole plate and it likes to jump out, fall off of the table, and run under the nearest immovable object!) Remove the sole plate and blade and upper cutting frame as a unit. You can now see the gears that drive the blade, and one (or both) of the gears will be stripped of it's teeth. Go to the manufacturer's website and you might be able to buy new gears.

Stihl hl75 pole trimmer. Blades don't move. Cable turns when cutting end is off machine, but will not drive blades when it is attached. Anyone have an idea as to what's going on?

More than likely a gearbox problem in the cutter head. They can break teeth on the gears and also have delicate needle bearings than can wear if they are ungreased. Maintenance is paramount on these moving parts.

I just bought a used toro Recycler 2 gts 5600 We think the blades need sharpened but not sure because the gear is stuck somewhere between neutral and 1 and will not budge. It starts up fine and stays...

Try removing the screws that hold the cover on the self-propelled drive on the top deck. Then actuate the cable and see if there is kinking, binding, and not broken.. See if the springs and levers are free and move on the gearbox. There may even be a little black plug on top of the gearbox you can remove to add lube to the gear drive. Mobil 1 gear lube works well there. Spray WD-40 in the problem areas around the gear drive. If binding is real bad, use penetrating oil instead of WD like Liquid Wrench (cuts rust) or PB Blaster. As far as the blade goes, tilt the mower and check it. You can easily tell if it is sharp or dull; it's most likely dull. With some TMC (Thoughtful Mower Care), you may be able to get it up and running AND cutting.

My Honda CRV (1998) is making a high pitched whine sometimes when I'm driving. It seems to happen when the rpms are high before shifting (I own a standard transmittion CRV). It whines between 2.5 and 3...

Does the high-pitch whine exist when the engine is just running? Not moving (transmission is not in gear)? Running but with transmission in neutral (coasting down hill)?

I have a 1992 Chevy pick up 1500 series. 350 engine. The idle is running low on it, were and how can I adjust it?

If the vehicle has a automatic transmission, check the Neutral Safety Switch. If defective from wear it could be sending incorrect signals to the Electronic Control Module which in turn sends signals to the Idle Air Control. It will make the computer think the transmission is in gear and lower the RPMs and then when the transmission is actually in gear the physical load will lower the RPMs even more. To check, set the parking brake and move the gear selector to Neutral and check the RPMs to see if the engine maintains a constant 650 +/-. Next, shift to Drive and check if RPMs drop to and maintain 500 +/-. If it does then you have diagnosed the problem. The original equipment Idle Air Control motors rarely wear out.

John Lewis mini helicopter gear wheels dropped

Yes, I had exactly the same problem, the lower blades can actually move a little on the shaft, if the helicopter takes a big knock then they move up so much that the shaft drops so that the gears no longer engage.

To fix it just squeeze the lower blades towards the gear, I did this by putting a finger on each side of the lower blade next to the shaft and my thumbs against the lower gear so you are squeezing along the shaft. The lower blade will then move down, however if it moves too much it will jam against the main body of the helicopter so you will need to pull it back appart a little so the bottom blades move freely.

Thihl HL75 hedge trimmer engine will not run at full speed

Remove the cutting attachment, insert a screwdriver in to the shaft receptor and it should operate smooth with a slight bit of friction. if not then check the blade bolts and make sure the blades move freely. Lubricate the blades and the gearbox regularly. If the attachment end is good then turn the driveshaft by hand (with attachment still off shaft). If this too moves freely then go to the clutch.
