Question about Casio FX-115ES Scientific Calculator

Hello,**I will assume you are familiar with the basic concepts of matrix algebra**.

Turn calculator [ON]

Press [MODE][6:MATRIX]. Select the matrix you want: MatA, MatB, Matc

Let us assume you select 1: MatA.

MatA (mxn) sceen: there you specify the dimensions of the matrix, the number of rows, and the number of columns. Press 5 for a 2x2 matrix.

The matrix entry screen shows, a rectangle is highlighted. Enter there the a_11 coefficient, exemple 1.

1 [ENTER]. Highlight moves to a_12 ;

1 [ENTER] highlight moves to a_21

1 [ENTER] highlight moves to a_22

2 [ENTER] Highlight stays on a_22.

Matrix is defined. The values I used are arbitrary. Enter your own.

Suppose you want to calculate the determinant of MatA

Press [SHIFT][MATRIX][7:det][SHIFT][MATRIX][3:MatA] [)] [=]

Now you want to calculate the square of matA.

Press [SHIFT][MATRIX][3:MatA] [x^2][=]

A 2x2 matrix is displayed. It is MatA[^2].

Press key Mode, first select option 5:EQN (by pressing key 5), then option 2: a_nX+b_nY+c_nZ=d_n (by pressin 2).

Now input coefficients from equations in table (each column is for one variable), just type in number and press =, then use arrows to move to another cell.

enclosed screen capture shows all the possible dimensions for matrices
on the Casio FX-119ES/991ES. As you can see the maximum dimension of any
matrix is 3. You can only create matrices with dimensions less than or
equal to 3.

What do you mean by "solve a matrix"? Find the inverse? Find the determinant? Find the solution to a system of linear equations? Within limits the fx-115ES can do any of these and more.

Press MODE 6 to get into matrix mode. Note: do this only once. If you do it again, it will erase all your matrices. Pick the matrix, set its dimension, then the calculator will put up a screen allowing you to enter/edit the matrix elements. At any time you're in matrix mode, press SHIFT 4 to bring up the matrix menu.

Hello,

The error may be due to the key you used to signifie inverse. It says in the manual that you should use the key x^-1 not the one used to input general powers.

Here is screen capture from the Appendix to the manual. The picture shows the sequence of keys to press to obtain the inverse of a 2x2 matrix. It is taken from page 41 of Appendix

The matrix used in the exemple is

a_11=2 a_12=1 a_21=1 a_22=2
