Question about Fantom Titanium II (TFD500C16) 500 GB USB Hard Drive

Drive Being Recognized as Removable Disk

I've had this drive for a couple of weeks and it had worked fine. I (gently) moved the drive and the computer to a different location in the house. All of a sudden the drive is only being recognized as "Sunplus USB2SATA Bridge Device" which is a removable disk. I can't access any data. This happens when the drive is connected to a desktop computer running XP and a laptop running Vista. Is there any fix or is the data lost?

Re: Drive Being Recognized as Removable Disk

Same issue with my 500 GB TFD500U16. A little more description is that my PC is detecting the power when turning on the drive and the HDD itself is spinning up. Also the Blue light that normally indicates HDD activity by turning Red no longer shows activity but just stays Blue. This indicates that the data side of the HDD is not seated properly. Since mine is out of Warranty, I took it apart and found this to be the exact case.
! ! ! ! Please perform this at your own risk ! ! ! ! Especially if your warranty is still in effect! ! ! By loosening the HDD mounting screws inside that will allow the connection to seat properly and data to be seen.

Re: Drive Being Recognized as Removable Disk

You can go to the device manager, remove the sunplus from it, and reconnect your harddrive, then it should download the right drivers

What I would do is unplug it Immediatly and stop using it so you won't screw it up any more. On a side note Apple is reported to be giving you unlimited dowloads of your music so that may save you. If it's not being recognized try going onto a different computer.

that really happens when hardisk crashed..
there is nothing to do but replace it.
but wait.. I have experience that also, could not retrieve all my files in my drive. So what I did is hide it in my stock room for a couple of weeks.
Then one day when i am about to throw away the drive,I get this crazy ideas to try my hardisk again as back up drive.
I connected my drive, put the jumper in it as slave and open my computer.
At first, it reads very slowly after booting, hardly recognized the disk, but it did...
when I am in windows and started browsing the disk, it would take it some time before loading all the files.
When that happened I back up those files and save that to my master drive.

I think what happen is when I hide the disk for a couple of weeks the disk itself discharge all the left volts in it.. not sure about that.

My desktop computer used to be able to recognize my Passport drive. I've had to replace the CPU and Motherboard and reload XP, but now it is having trouble recognizing the drive. Can you help?

“To install, and Update Hardware, click to open “Computer” from the “Desktop”, check to see if there is a by the ("Name, Passport") or DVD-RW Drive (D :), for external different (E or F:).
I. Look in the “Device: Removable Storage area,” see if the device is present, if so? Do the following: to “setup” the ('player') for “Installation.”
II. Right click on "Passport," or how shown listed, (DVD) “Media Player” select (“Install”) follow all instructions thereafter.
III. If the area is (Blank?), “go to,” and 'click' on the "Start button" click all “Programs” scroll for a Media Disk Player”, open, and do the (“same as above”) for the installation. *Note: “Do the same for “Setup” (above) “Install.”
"Once everything is finished; restart the computer" "Ratings the solution is appreciated, thanks ”

My western digital hard drive isn't recognized. It is on but my computer isn't recognizing it.

See below from Western Digital:

Try the following steps to see if the drive comes up:
  1. Power off the computer all the way.
  2. Unplug the data and power cables from the back of the drive, and then turn the computer back on.
  3. Attach one end of the power cable directly to the drive and the other end into a wall outlet. Wait a couple seconds for the drive to do its internal test, then move to the next step.
Note: If you have a Passport or an Elements portable drive, they do not require a power adapter. Skip steps 3 and 4, and proceed to step 5.
  4. If the drive has a power button on the back or front, press it to power the unit on. The lights on the drive should illuminate and after a few seconds go solid. If the lights move a little, that is normal.
  5. Make sure that the computer is powered up, and the desktop is fully loaded, then connect the drive directly to the computer and see if it is detected.
If the drive works on another computer, then the problem most likely lies with the computer system you started with. Make sure that you have the latest driver updates and Service Packs for your Windows. If the drive is still not recognized, then you will most likely need to contact Microsoft or the computer manufacturer to see if they can assist you.
If the drive doesn't work on another computer, even after changing the data cable, then it sounds like the problem could be with the drive, itself. Check Disk Management and see if the drive is recognized in the lower right pane. If so, you may need to partition or format the drive in order for it to be recognized. If the drive doesn't show up in Disk Management, then the drive has most likely failed and will need to be replaced. Please see the links below for additional information.

Important: You do not want to partition or format the drive if there is data on the unit that you need. In order to retrieve the information on the unit, you may need to contact a data recovery company to see if they can help you retrieve the data.
