Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

Linksys WRT54G won't open ports

I have been having trouble with my router as well. I tried to re-configure to open my ports and it freezes my computer and than won't recognize my router and I have to re-start my computer and re-set my router in order to even get on line. I have followed the detailed instructions on how to manage my router to include opening my ports to allow faster downloads and more than one web page at a time. If I run any programs to include my virus scan it won't even open a web page. I have tried to diagnos web page problems and it says no problems to be found but it won't open up anything at all. Very frustrating. Not sure what the problem is.

What modem are you using? Who is your DSL provider? The reason why you need to consider this is because it could be that the modem's setting is not on a bridge mode or is not set to have the all the ports to be open.
So even if you have your router set to have all the ports open but your modem is not then it can cause conflicts. The transmission of the data stops at the modem.

  1. Begin setup of your Linksys Wireless Router by first plugging in the power. Give it 10 seconds or so to initialize and then plug an ethernet cable into your wall jack and into the port on the back of the router marked Internet. Next get another ethernet cable and plug one end into your laptop and the other into one of the ports labeled 1-4 on the router. Your computer is now properly connected to the router to begin its setup and configuration.
  2. Next open a web browser window on the connected computer and type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar and press enter. A window will pop up prompting you for a username and password to access the configuration page for your router. Enter admin for both the username and password.
