Question about HP Compaq Presario CQ50-110US Laptop

1 Answer

I have a Compaq CQ50 laptop, there seems to be a short or bad connection somewhere just under the power button or keyboard. I say this because the power button is not working, I press the botton and nothing happens no sounds no light computer is dead. But when I remove the keybord and power button bezel screws and lift them up the power button works just fine computer boots up everything is GOOD. but If I screw them both down again power button does nothing computer will not boot, no lights sounds all dead. Also I have pressed all around with the power button area connector while the keyboard was raised no problems. Any Ideas?

I was working in a computer with the same problem, when you remove the keyboard and the keyboard cover at the right side of the power button you can see an small plastic cap with two wires, is the num lock led, when the wires are under the top cover and the screws of the keyboard or the cover are too tight the wire is damage and make contac with the earth shuting down the power supply, check the wires, repair if broken and take care that its not under the top cover when you assembly.

Touchpad not working on compaq cq50

Go here(http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/welcome.html#Product) to drivers and support. My touch pad button turned white and orange, but the pad was still active either color. I downloaded the drivers and wow, how nice now not to end up typing somewhere in the middle of my paragraph.

Black sreem on a compaq labtop cq50-215NR compaq

1 disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery from the laptop
2. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds
3. replace the battery and connect the ac adapter to the laptop
4. turn On the notebook and check.

If the issue persists, restart the notebook and press F10 to check if you see the BIOS screen. If you cannot see the BIOS screen then the issue could be hardware issue and your laptop needs to be repaired

Are you sure that you have inserted the strip connector correctly into the motherboard connector? If not fully inserted before closing the pressure clips it may not connect properly.

My Compaq presario CQ50 is having internet issues...

Run windows diagnostics and if that doesnt work, open up the command prompt in administrator mode and type in /ipconfig renew and after that type in /ipconfig repair and see if that helps. Also look in internet options and under connections click on lan and check that there are no numbers in the proxy box as this can sometimes cause issues if you have used any software to hide your ip address.

I'd try messing with the memory. Try booting one single stick in each of the slots.

I've noticed that this happens pretty frequently with certain hp / compaq models.

If you've already tried that you can try removing the cmos battery for 5 minutes but aside from that the motherboard has probably gone out :(

I hope it's under warranty!
