You can definitely reset the password for your computer just do the ff steps:

  • when the computer is starting up press F8 simultaneously
  • select safeboot when prompted for boot options
  • login as administrator
  • when you are on the main screen click start
  • select control panel
  • select USERS
  • select the username that you are using
  • click on remove password
  • then restart your computer
Hope this will help

You can unplug the computer, open the case and remove the CMOS battery. Replace the battery and plug it in and try again.
If this doesn't work, go through the process again and see if there is a set of jumpers close to the battery. They will say something like clrcmos. If you change the jumper to clear the CMOS for about 15 seconds and then set it back to the default, you should be OK.
This is for a startup password.
Now if he has created a password in Windows itself, there is a way to reset it, but you will need a WIN XP startup disk.
Try this first: Start the computer in safe mode (pressing the F8 key repeatedly on startup. Choose safe mode and log on as administrator. Most people, when setting a password for themselves, forget to password protect the administrator account! Now go to his account and change the password or remove it.

Reset forgotten password

Go to the Computer store and ask a technician to clear the password for you. A CD called PowerSuite is a powerful UTILITY disk that can Boot Up from the CD/DVD drive when starting the computer. It has its operating system on the CD and starts by itself. A Utility programs on that disk will allow you to search the hard drive for all passwords and give you the option to Clear the Password. Once you cancel out the existing password, the computer will start up normally for there on in. Just don't use a Password. Remember to remove the CD before restarting the computer or else you will go back to the Power Suite program again.

There might be a jumper setting on the system brd that will reset the password. I can't find the specs on the jumper settings of that model's system brd. There are sites that will bypass the password for a fee. Google " Reset Bios password for a dell inspiron b130 laptop,

My girlfriend gave me an Eee PC 1005/1001 that her son doesn't use any more. They can't remember the Password they chose for it. We have tried all their "usual" choices. How can I either...

If it is the "power-on" password that you must enter as soon as the computer is powered-on, then ask her son for the password, since there is no way of bypassing it, other than telephoning ASUS, selecting Technical Support, and show them "proof-of-purchase", and then they can bypass that password.

If it is the password that is used to logon to Windows, then there do exist "password reset" utilities.
Restart the computer, and put the utility onto a bootable CD-recordable disk, and boot from the optical drive, instead of from the 'C:' drive, and change/delete the password.

Where is the chip ona dell laptop to reset the password

To prevent a thief from stealing your computer, and then resetting the password, there is no way to "bypass" the password.

So, find the original bill-of-sale, to prove that you, not the thief, are in possession of the computer, and then telephone Dell, and ask for Technical Support.

DELL XPS M140 MXC051 LAPTOP BIOS PASSWORD

Most laptop or notebook computers feature enhanced BIOS security, and BIOS passwords on laptops are hard to bypass. Several companies offer laptop security chip services that can be used to bypass the BIOS password on Dell laptops or notebooks and reset the security. They can provide a master password from the Dell Service Tag of your Dell laptop. This master password will allow you to bypass the existing password and enter the BIOS and reset the unknown password. To generate the master password they need to know the Dell Service Tag of your unit. Dell Master Password Recovery does not require soldering or disassembly of the laptop and supports most Dell models.

Dell BIOS passwords can also be reset by replacing the laptop security chip. Passwords can also be recovered from security chips that have been removed from laptop or notebook systems. These passwords may be required to attempt to unlock protected hard disks. Passwords recovered from these chips are the original BIOS passwords and may be the same as the hard disk password, but are not guaranteed to be the same and may not unlock the hard disk. These are usually damaged in the process of recovering the passwords and are not suitable for replacement into a computer.

Yes, when you switch the laptop on hold down the F8 key until you see a black screen with a list of white text, one of the options will be "Safe Mode", use the arrow keys to highlight safe mode (just safe mode, not safe mode with anything) and press return. The computer will start to the welcome screen and you will see a user-name you don't normally see called "Administrator". Click on Administrator and you will find it is not password protected (in spite of the fact that the Administrator account has more access to the system than any other account!) when the administrator profile loads it will ask you if you want to continue in safe mode and you do. click start, click control panel and click on users and groups now click on your son's user account and click remove password. now click back, click on the Administrator account and click change password, the old password should be left blank and you're new Administrator password should be something at least 7 letters, numbers and special characters (!@£$%^&*) long that you can remember. Now just restart and let it start up normally, once loaded advise your son to set a password he can remember or at least write down somewhere safe.
