What type of video card can i add to this motherboard. I want to replace the monitor with a 22" Samsung LCD flat panel. Do I look for an AGP card or a PCI card? What is the max Ram size? ie: 256/512 etc. this motherboard will handle?

If you have an AGP slot available, use it. If not, you'll need to get a
PCI card. The motherboard does not care how much memory is on the video card.
As for the motherboard itself, go on the HP site and enter your computer model number (not the motherboard number) and see if you can pull up the specs on upgrading your memory. Also, any reliable memory vendor will be able to tell you how much memory the motherboard will handle.

How to add second monitor on ECS RS482-M

Doesn't work that way Max.

You can use EITHER the OnBoard Graphics,
OR;
the Add-On Card graphics. (Graphics card)

BIOS will NOT support both at the same time.

If you wish to use dual monitors, get an AGP card that has more than one graphics port on it.

For example, although I'm using a graphics card based on the PCI Express technology, and not AGP technology; my card has a VGA port, DVI port, and HDMI port.

1) VGA Connector; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_Connector

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Male_VGA_connector.jpg

2) DVI; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Dvi-cable.jpg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface#Connector

3) HDMI; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI

I use the VGA port, and the DVI port.

RCA EN-V L26HD31, (26 inch HDTV) to the VGA port.
HP 2009M 20 inch Widescreen monitor to the DVI port.

Had to install drivers for HP 2009M.

Let's say I had two DVI ports on the graphics card.
(ATI Radeon HD5450 is the graphics card I have)

But I have a monitor with a VGA cable, and a monitor with a DVI cable.
I would (And have) use a VGA to DVI Adapter.
One example,

http://www.directron.com/dvi.html

Note that the DVI is Male, and the VGA is Female.
The graphics card DVI connector is Female.
The VGA Cable connector is Male.

So.............what is the manufacturer name, and model number of the graphics card; plus what type of monitors are you trying to use?
That is, what type of monitor cables do they have?

Know this;
My HDTV I'm using as a monitor is Digital. However I'm using a VGA cable on it. Best quality would be achieved if I got off my lazy rear, and attached a DVI Cable to it. It uses both.

VGA is Analog. A computer however puts out a digital video signal.
The computer has to convert the digital video signal to an Analog one. This slows the video signal down, and the quality is not as good.

Best to use a digital monitor. (Or a digital monitor WITH a digital cable. DVI Cable. Such as I need to do)

You are also using a PCI Express graphics card, NOT an AGP graphics card.

I'm wrong? OK.

In the meantime turn the computer off, unplug from power, and yank that AGP card out of the slot you put it in.

Tell me what expansion slot on the motherboard you put it in.

The Orange expansion slot on the motherboard, is a PCI-Express x16 slot. Uses a PCI Express graphics card -> ONLY

The white expansions slots are PCI.
Can use a PCI graphics card. CANNOT use an AGP graphics card.

On the right side, color line showed up last week from top to bottom, more lines showed up every day and now form a strip. Is this a hardware or software problem?

You can check by yourself if the problem is brought by a video card. Disconnect your present video card from the motherboard. It is the hardware where vga cable from the monitor is connected to on the back of your computer. Replace it with your back up video card. (a pci or agp graphics card will do) connect the vga cable and restart your computer. If you don't have a back up video card, find in the computer a built in video card, enable this on the cmos'bios setup) connect the vga cable thru this and turn on your computer. If the lines went out then it is the video card that needs replacement. If the lines still occur despite the procedure, I suggest you bring your unit to a credible technician unless you have the skills to open your lcd monitor and find the problem in it by yourself.

does you cpu have a built in vga or you use a separate card? check at the back of the cpu, if you are using a cpu that has a built in vga and youre using a separate vga card may you have just connected your lcd monitor on the built in in which many cases will not work you need to connect your lcd on the separate vga card, if that is not the case and you head a beeping sound with intervals then there a problem with your vga card now if you use built in video you need to put on a separate vga card agp or pci-e which ever is supported by your motherboard, hope this help

That could be the video chip if have on board video. I don't know if you have an AGP or PCI slot to add a new video card. The Agp is brown color and always is just one. The PCI are white, and you can have 2, 3 or 4. You can buy some cheap video cards on ebay.

LG 22" TV with Geforce nVidia 5500 FX 256MB AGP card

Try getting a new video driver. Foreware = motherboard drivers and such, not video.

I saw this driver on Nvidia.com

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.19_whql.html

Its the XP driver for those 5000 series FX cards like yours. Try installing that and checking out the Nvidia Panel after.

1680x1050 is an odd resolution for TV, that is what normal 22" monitors have but I guess it will do up to 1680x1050 only when hooked up to a PC.

You can find manual on your board at:

You probably need to replace your videocard with AGP 4X 1.5V with DVI output.

Good Luck!

Lcd monitor resolution

Hi, if I understand you right, your LCD can display 1680 X 1050 but your PC/Video can only display a max screen resolution of 1280 X 1024 (or something like that). Right click on your desktop, go to properties, Go to the settings Tab, see how high you can bring the screen resolution (towards the right). That is the limitation of the built-in video (S3 Graphics UniChrome 2D/3D Graphics with motion compensation) of the MSI KM4AM-V (2004). If this will do for you, then you're set, if not then..... To be able to display resolution higher than that, you have to add an AGP Video card capable of the 1680 X 1050 (ATI or NVidia or your choice as long as screen res is high). Your motherboard has one AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) slot @ 1.5V 4X/8X. This will also hold if you already happen to have an AGP Video card but with relatively low screen res. Hope this be of some help to you. Pls post again how things turn up. Regards
