How can i fix com and activex errors

ActiveX is a plug-in that is an extension to Microsoft OLE technology and COM technology. This plug-in is typically used in applications and on the internet. ActiveX allows interactive applications over the internet such as an online scan for viruses using a web browser.

In many cases, ActiveX applications are malicious which is why you should restrict ActiveX programs from automatically being run.
  1. To do this, open Internet Explorer and choose Tools, then choose Internet Options. Click on the Security tab and click on the button that says Custom Level.
  2. Scroll down to the Active-X section and mark "Prompt" under all the options given except for the settings marked "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" and "Script Active X controls marked safe for scripting". These should be set to "enable". This means that you will be prompted before a questionable ActiveX file is installed giving you greater control over your system. In addition, these settings may solve your ActiveX error.
Another step you can take to solve Active-X errors involves resetting a system file which may be misconfigured.
  1. Go to the Start button
  2. Choose Run
  3. Type in: regsvr32 msxml3.dll
  4. Click OK
  5. Click OK again when prompted
  6. Close all browser windows and reopen
Some ActiveX errors are specifically related to software that has been uninstalled. This is due to the fact that in operating systems before Microsoft Windows 2000, there weren't any systems in place to prevent third party applications from removing and replacing critical DLL files. If your Active-X error is related to a missing DLL, reinstalling the appropriate program will take care of it.

For example, if you remove Microsoft Access on a pre-Windows 2000 machine, you may see an error such as:
Microsoft VBScript runtime (0x800A01AD)
ActiveX component can't create object: <progid>

This is because when removing Access, you also removed critical DLLs needed elsewhere. Solving that particular error is a simple matter of reinstalling the Microsoft Data Access Components.

If you have a specific error such the one described above:
  1. Try a general internet search using a major search engine such as Google by entering in the exact error phrase and code. You'll have a huge resource at your fingertips that deals exclusively with the exact error you are receiving.
  2. Another good resource for finding out how to fix specific errors is the Microsoft knowledge base. Go to the Microsoft website and search the knowledge base by entering the exact error that is generated. A list of all documents that deal with that error will display. If Microsoft has a solution, you can find it here.
ActiveX errors can also be the result of invalid registry entries and keys, often caused by malicious programs such as spyware. Editing the system registry is highly complex and extremely risky because any wrong keystroke can be disastrous. In addition, changes made to the registry are immediate. This is not a job for the average computer user. Instead, choose a software utility designed specifically for cleaning the system registry. One such utility is aregistry repair application called RegCure. By using RegCure, not only will you solve Active X errors, you'll solve, and prevent, additional PC errors. At the same time, you'll recover lost system performance

Free PC Firewalls that work.

This is a very simplified guide only to Commercial Quality Free Firewalls.
A lot of us already know about these, but it's intended for those of us who don't.

I will post other Tips about other highly rated Free Security Programs depending on the responses here.

Before you decide, just bear in mind that no software suits everyone or every PC or OS. There are also personal likes, dislikes, foibles and resource usage issues that will no doubtedly please or irk some people here. It's a guide only.

These reviewed free utilities are all similarly rated and are a good contender for equalling or even exceeding some of the top rated paid commercial software.

Most Firewalls are renowned for their annoying chatter. Those screens you see with warnings such as "Do you......." or "Firewall Needs.........." etc. This is what they are supposed to do. Some chatter may be just a bit too much for the average PC user to cope with and you may opt for a less aggressive, but less secure or less configurable Firewall. That's a personal thing that each of us needs to decide.

I simplified and reviewed 3 out of the top few contenders, tho there may be other similarly good or bad ones in your opinion.

Comodo Security Suite (includes optional Antivirus)
32 bit and 64 bit bit compatible - Yes. Separate downloads.
HIPS protection - Yes
Ease of use - 5/10. Should improve after learning curve
Overall Protection - 9+/10 (user error not included)
Resource usage - One of the highest, but expected with this type of performance.
User configuration - 8/10 after learning curve.
Updates - Auto or Manual
Exceeds the performance requirements of paid commercial products.
Can be very daunting and extremely annoying for first time users.
An excellent and huge help file is included that should be read thoroughly.
Not recommended if you are annoyed easily or a bit lazy to read the seemingly initial constant chatter.

Online-Armour Free
32 bit and 64 bit compatible - Yes for Vista and W7. XP is 32bit only.
HIPS protection - Yes
Ease of use - 7/10 after learning curve.
Overall Protection - 9/10 (user error not included)
Resource usage - A bit less than Comodo
User configuration - 5/10. There's some questionable user configured disabling features and software installer annoyances that may turn some users off this, otherwise it is excellent.
Updates - Auto or Manual
Similar to the performance requirements of paid commercial products but with some items locked out in the free version. Chatter is still annoying, but not as aggressive as Comodo

PC Tools Firewall Plus
32 bit and 64 bit compatible - Yes. For Vista and W7. XP is 32 bit only.
HIPS protection - Yes
Ease of use - 6/10. Help is very sparse.
Overall protection - 8/10 (user error not included)
Resource usage - Noticeably less than the above
User configuration - 4/10. The minimal help may be an issue and some items are only available in paid version. Ads in Free version can be annoying.
Updates - Auto or manual
Nearly as good as paid commercial products. Still has chatter you need to put up with.

Others you may consider : -

Outpost Firewall Free
Zone Alarm Free version
Inbuilt Windows 7 Firewall
Sunbelt Kerio

U help?Trying to update my paid for Incredimail 2, I keep getting

Microsoft has created a Fix-It for this!
What this Fix it does is to remove incorrect or corrupt registry entries that interfere with VB support in windows and then re-registers the DLL ensuring that the correct registry setting are there. After running the Fix it solution you may be able to immediately try the operation that previously gave you the error, but to be sure, a reboot is suggested. This will address similar issues with other programs as well and not just the applications that are specifically mentioned in this thread.

The link to the Fix it is:

If you want to do it without any software then here is the Link to view the solution ERROR 2738

My computer has no signal and when i try to open in safe mode or windows normally, nothing happens.

Here's one general startup troubleshooter.
There's probably similar information specific to your model at the Gateway support site, if you enter your serial number and search their knowledge base for 'startup problems' or 'no boot'.
For anything more specific, we need to know what OS you're running. Have you tried Last known good configuration?
Were you getting any errors or problems before this occurred?
Sometimes this is related to system memory. Try reseating your ram or removing it one stick at a time.
Or, you can try booting from your recovery cd or windows installation disk and using the recovery console to run chkdsk, or other tools, to repair your windows installation. But again, helps us to know what os.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

I purchased a pc game and it keeps shuttng down and says runtime error contact customer service.

it is possible that the program, utility or game causing the runtime error may have issues. Verify through the developers website that all updates or patches that may be available have been downloaded and applied. If no patches or updates are available, attempt to uninstall and/or reinstall the program that is causing the issue.
