Why is the image in the view finder blurry

There could be several reasons.

The camera isn't focused. Adjust the focus.

The diopter is not set properly. Some cameras have a viewfinder diopter adjustment. This is similar to putting eyeglasses on the camera. Just as things will look blurry to you if you look through someone else's glasses, the viewfinder will be blurry if the diopter is not set properly for your vision. I wish I could tell you how to adjust this (or even whether your camera has it) but since you didn't bother to specify the model of your Olympus camera...

Can you please advise what video recording settings to use on my AG HMC 40PJU so that the videocamera will automatically adjust the light exposure entering the camera? I video a lot of stage plays and...

At the theatre prior to the performance, ask the lighting director to show you one of the brighter performance stage light configurations and allow you to set the camera's white-balance. (It's easier to deal with a little under-exposure in post production, than it is for over-exposure.) Then adjust the exposure accordingly during the performance.

Preparation/Planning: Either at home or in the theatre, if you practice setting the white balance and then adjusting the exposure for varying levels of light, with your camera connected to a video monitor, so you will see it more clearly in real time, it will help adjustments during filming the performance more fluid.

Also consider using a lens filter. Practice various combinations to see what suits different light levels and gels for best effects. When possible, if using a stand alone camera (not cabled into a control room set-up) I prefer using a video monitor for each camera person to give better ability to manage adjustments of camera settings as needed.

HOW TO ADJUST FLASH SETTINGS

Hi,

The Flash mode in the Camera can be changed by pressing the Right Arrow button (>) continuously which will change the settings from Flash Forced ON, Slow Synchro and Flash Forced OFF.

Flash Level can also be adjusted in the Camera by selecting the Flash Level option from the Shooting Menu of the Camera.

Thanks,

How can I turn down the power on the FL50 to get more flashes. Can you turn down the power on the camera E510 with hte FL50 attatched?

the user manual is here http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/support/imsg/digicamera/download/manual/accessories/man_fl50_e.pdf
Have a look at page 46 TTL Auto mode - you can adjust the variable between power setting - + or - 3 stops Page 48 gives full details on adjusting this setting
Light intensity adjustment
  • The flash light intensity can be adjusted between +3 and –3.
  • The light intensity adjustment must be set to ON in the custom setup operation (page 61). • The indicator appears in the control panel.
  1. Turn dial B to select a light intensity adjustment value in the following steps. (This selection is also possible with dial A.)
  • 0 → +0.3 → +0.7→ +1.0 ... +3.0
  • 0 → –0.3 → –0.7→ –1.0 ... –3.0
  1. The display shows the light intensity adjustment value except when the value is 0, in which case the display does not show the light control range.
  2. If the camera’s flash adjustment mode is selected, the actual flash light intensity will be the total of the light intensity adjustment value set on the FL-50 and that set on the camera. The light intensity adjustment value displayed is that of the FL-50 only.

Photos taken outdoors are very bright

As far as I know, Digimax 240 doesn't allow for normal ways to adjust camera settings for different environments (shutter speed, ISO settings, etc) but the menu does allow for Exposure Compensation to be adjusted (plus or minus 2 stops). Try adjusting that to find what works best for you.
Only other options are using a decent photo software to adjust on a computer afterwards, or look in to getting a camera that allows you to alter these factors for when you take a picture

F-stop issues

See pages 36&37 of the manual.

If you haven't got one, you can download it here.

In M mode...

Turn the selector dial to adjust shutter speed.

Hold down the AV+/- button (top-right of rear screen) and turn selector dial to adjust aperture setting.

As for Av mode, this is perfectly normal that you cannot set the shutter speed. Av mode means that you decide on the aperture setting and the camera (not you!) decides on the correct shutter speed.

Hope this helps,

Matt.

Yes. You pick the apature (the 3000 keeps it aorund the setting you pick) and then it automaticly adjusts the speed for you.
