The white powder is most likely caused by oxidation. There are a variety of reasons why it would occur. Solder contains zinc, and when exposed to the atmosphere will form zinc oxide. The white powder is mostly likely zinc oxide.

If you live near the ocean, it could be salt crytals.

It didn't come from a capacitor; they usually contain a dry paper-like insulation. You can usually see evidence of a blown cap, they will be opened or severely deformed

Its not normal, the board may not have been processed correctly, but it does happen.

I have a Lg 42" lcd tv (42LG3000) TV is wall

White screen with good audio. before buying pcbs & such. try my repair method.. you need to get the lcd unit off the facia & then remove the front lcd metal frame. at the top of the screen you have 2 thin pcbs - chances are that the ribbon cable got at least one track unbonded. first off put some double sided tape under the pcbs to stick then to the frame - that'll take the bend out of those pcbs !! next put cellotape over the ribbon cables. i then cut 6 pieces of sponge 15mm thick & wide as the ribbon cable & glue to the tape on the ribbon at what would be the top edge of the screen (covering the point where ribbon meets pcb).. put the metal frame on top edge first to keep the sponge straight !! put it back together & fire it up. if it still aint working you may need a tcon pcb (little square one at the top). this fixed my 42lg3000 but can work on others with same fault !!

I have used the product once before and now need to use it again for the same crack...however, the putty has hardened in the bottle...is there a way to soften it so that it can be mixed with the hardener...

try adding a little bit of water, let it sit and see if it softens up, the amount of water used will determine the consistency. There is also the possibility that you need a different product. They have some very nice ;marine' glues out there that are great for plumbing and in the bathroom. I had to redo a bunch of soap and towel holders within fully tiled bathrooms. the stuff is great.

White/Grey screen with non-HD channels

I removed the HDMI cable and connected with component video and rca audio. No more white screen.

Picture quality looks good. I don't know if it's as good as HDMI, but then I don't need to reboot the TV three times to get to teh on-demand menu... Grrrrr....

I am trying to contact Toshiba on this as well. I have seen several reports of this problem on the web.

2002 T&C fuel tank leak at the white entry fitting. Any glue to fix it?

Hi Vallee,

Yes there is.
Not so much glue as it is epoxy with a twist. Instead of starting out as a liquid, this stuff starts out like modeling clay.

It is sold in auto parts stores to seal cracks in batteries and fuel tanks. The major advantage is not having to empty either of them.

It comes as sort of a clay tube. The resin surrounds the hardener. You just slice off what you need, squish it a couple dozen times until the color is all the same and tamp it in and around the hole, crack, whatever. Hardens in less than a half hour, full cure about six hours.

Good stuff

Best regards,
Mike

Royal Albert China Teapot has a small piece broken at top where lid fits. I have the pieces. it is at the back of teapot near the handle Measures abt. 2mm x 2mm. There are three pieces and some slivers . I...

Get some araldite (epoxy resin) mix equal quantities of the resin and the hardener and somehow glue it together. This stuff is strong once dried and is heat resistant and as far as I know...non-toxic once dried.

It will be a bit fiddly though, and you should use a little hand held clamp to keep the pieces together as tightly as possible until it hardens.

Pioneer PDP-425CMX 42" Plasma Tv

Try the scan PCBs that run down the side and the connectors that hook them up to the rest of the system. That would be my first place to start.

Unfortunately I don't have service manuals for non-european models. What is the date of manufacture?
