TO boost speed of the laptop delete temporary files and you may increase the RAM of the laptop.

To check the IP address, follow the steps below:

A. Click on Start—Programs—Accessories—Command Prompt.
B. In Command Prompt window, type in 'ipconfig' and hit 'Enter'.

Here you will see the information for the IP address.

What is an IP address

IP address is like our normal address. if you have to go somewhere you need to know the address. Same goes for devices. IP address is given to all devices which are connected to a network. So that they can understand from which device you have to connect.
Now to get you laptop's IP address just type "what's my IP address" in Google search bar.

Reset ip address

If you use DSL or a cable modem you could try (as mentioned above) resetting your IP address. Go to the RUN command, type "command"

There you can type:
/ipconfig
(shows your current IP)

/ipconfig /ALL
(more details such as when the current IP "lease" expires)

/ipconfig /renew
(renews your IP address)

/ipconfig /release
(drops your current IP)
Bell High Speed users need only reset the modem to obtain a new IP. You can check your current IP address from http://www.ip-details.com

My internet delivers less than 2 mps when I connect my Linksys it does't work

This speed is actually too small. That may be the reason Linksys can't relay the connection to your laptop. Try and get an improved link speed and make sure the linksys picks the IP address of the service provider (ISP) because it needs the IP address to be able to connect connected systems.

I installed my D-Link DIR-615 router today and did my setup in my Window 7 laptop. I don't know whether it matters whether I do setup in a laptop or a desktop. Then, I connect the modem/router to my...

If you have trouble connecting to your modem, you may need to lock the speed down on the WAN port of your router to 10Mbps. Within the web-based configuration utility for the router, go to Tools > Misc and the option to select the WAN speed will be towards the bottom. Not all routers have this option.

Follow the steps configuring the router once again...

Step 1 Log into the web-based configuration by typing in the IP address of the router (default:192.168.0.1) in your web browser. The username is admin (all lowercase) and the password is blank (nothing).

Note: The address 192.168.0.1 is NOT on the Internet. The web-based configuration is built-in to the router.

Step 2 Click the Setup tab and then click the Internet button.

Step 3 Dynamic IP Address is the default value, however, if Dynamic IP Address is not selected as the WAN type, select Dynamic IP Address from the drop down menu. Click Clone Mac Address. Click on Save Settings to save the changes.

Step 4 Click on Status. Under WAN, Click DHCP Renew. If it does not get an IP address or times out, then continue with the next step.

Step 5 Power cycle the cable modem and router using the following steps:

Turn the cable modem off (first)

Turn the router off

Leave them off for 2 minutes**

Turn the cable modem on (first)

Wait until you get a solid cable light on the cable modem

Turn the router on

Wait 30 seconds ..

Step 6 Follow Step 1 again to log back into the web configuration. Click the Status tab and click the Device Info button. If you do not already have a public IP address under the WAN heading, click on the DHCP Renew button.

Ip 3rd time is chainging.all time speed is going down

what ip are you referring to? most internet service providers provide dynamic ip addressing to their residential customers and dynamic ip addressing means that your ip address will be changed periodically. Static ip addresses (ip adoes not change) is usually provided for business consumers.
as for the speed, if you subscribe to 4Mbps speed package, what it actually means is that you willbe getting UP TO 4Mbps speed. that would explain why your speed goes down. you will not always have 4Mbps.

Try resetting your IP address:
The laptop may be trying to use the IP address from the old router.

1) Click Start (assuming Windows 2000, XP, or Vista)
2) Click Run
3) Type in CMD
This will take you to a black command box
4) Type in: ipconfig/release
The chart should show your IP address as 0.0.0.0
Once this has happened, proceed to step 5
5) Type in: ipconfig/renew
You should now see a new IP address listed.

Also note that you need to set up your network key (assuming that you are using one) on both the router and laptop.
Make sure that your router is set up to perform as DHCP server.
