Re: Problem with SideWinder Force Feedback Wheel (USB) and Windows Vista. I have two PC's, one running Windows XP Home and the other running Windows Vista Home Premium. Both correctly recognize the device by name, but on running Control Panel / Game Controllers I have discovered a discrepancy between the versions of Windows. My SideWinder Wheel has the following codes. Part No. XD4-97607 Product ID 52178-579-2882895-00000 On calibration I get the following values. XP Accelerator pedal: Y Axis 31 - 0 (Off - Fully Depressed). Brake pedal: Y Axis 31 - 62 (Off - Fully Depressed). Wheel: X Axis -512 - 511 (Left - Right). Z Rotation: No effect. Both my applications which use the wheel work perfectly on this machine. Vista Accelerator pedal: Y Axis 63 - 0 (Off - Fully Depressed). Brake pedal: Z Rotation 63 - 0 (Off - Fully Depressed). Wheel: X Axis -512 - 511 (Left - Right). Neither of my applications works correctly, although both have no problems running under keyboard control. My Vista PC is fully updated as of 18/09/09. sincerely, Alan Romp.

This is no solution to my problem. You do not even refer to the device I have asked about. I do not not even have a web camera. Please refund the fee this query.

According to your post, you are now using Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel mouse. This device has no driver for Windows Vista provided by Microsoft. Therefore, some functions may miss, very possibly including the problems you encountered.

For more information about compatibility, please refer to the following site:
http://winqual.microsoft.com/HCL/ProductDetails.aspx?m=v&g=d&cid=&sv=sidewinder&f=&pn=Microsoft%20SideWinder%20Force%20Feedback%20Wheel&oid=33

For better experience in games, I personally suggest you to upgrade the game device, for example, Microsoft SideWinder Mouse.

hey m8,

stumbled over your post while searching for sullotions for the same kind of problems.
I also have a perfectly working M$ sidewinder FF pro, trying to get it to work WITH force feedback.
However I am affraid there is no way to do this. From what I read is the gameport to slow to keep up with nowaday PC speeds :(

I got the joystick working up to windows XP (in XP it lost its FF tho and slowed down gameplay sometimes. Not sure if that was caused by the joystick or the game itself running in some compatibility mode). I was using the gameport from an old soundblaster live! by the way.

I did find something that may be usefull for you tho. Check the link below:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprohardware/thread/20fa2ccd-061b-4864-abbd-96d1a9871a2f

I havent tested this yet myself and it will require a creative soundcard but I think it will have a better chance of working that using some converter from gameport to USB.

Is the sidewinder force feedback wheel able to be used with the xbox 360.

no, because it has a 15pin (joystick/MIDI) connector and it would need a USB.

You need the USB adapter if you want to use it in Vista. They are very hard to come by, as most of them don't seem to be compatible with any of the Sidewinder products. This is your only option and not guaranteed. The adapters are about £10.

Microsoft's Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro Driver

Sorry to report that there is no driver for this stick that will allow the feedback to work with Win XP. I wanted to cry when I first found this out. I've been searching since the mid 90's for a work around for this. We can send a man to the moon and back on less than 1 meg of ram. But someone can not get this stick to work properly with Win XP?

That REALLY SUCKS!!!
