Question about Kenmore 62602 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Kenmoore dryer i think my dryer is electric since its only hooked up to the electric plug. its been working fine except that whenever i dry, my place gets really hot, like the heater is on. when i was cleaning, i noticed that there is a vent or a large coil in the back which is not connnected to the dryer, is this the problem? the vent is quite long for the space so its a little messed up. i guess ive been drying clothes with the vent or the large coil unhooked, is this safe? what do i do?

Well, if the vents are perfectly clean and unobstructed the only thing I can think of is that the thermal switch designed to turn off unit when overheating is opening prematurely.
Might have to be replaced.

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have not taken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then you need to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should take place. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causes for your dryer to fail.

Slow to dry

Hi!!

Have you cleaned the filter and the exhaust duct??

Lint plugs therm up, the heat sensor shuts off heating element thinking it is hot enough. Result: Clothes not getting dry.

Unplug duct and clean it, also clean the exahust passage of dryer. (where duct hooks to dryer)

Maytag Performa Electric dryer timer is bad

Look up an appliance parts store in your area. If there is no appliance store, try www.searspartsdirect.com.

If it does not turn off during timed dry then it for sure has gone bad. If it takes a while on timed dry then it is most likely that your thermal fuse/ valve coils are going bad.

Dryer internal breaker trips

If you are using dryer sheets in the machine the filter screen may be plugged and will have to be cleaned. You can check it by placing a bit of water on the screen if it beads and does not flow through then the screen is indeed plugged reducing air flow. There could be lint and build up in the dryer's internal ducting and sensors, the machine will have to be disassembled for a complete cleaning this will also reduce air flow and cause the machine to heat abnormally.
