Question about Denon AVR-1604 Receiver

1 Answer

Was it a good buy

Hi

for lack of better words, i got suckered into a great deal. at least thats what i thought. i have just bought a Denon AVR 1604 and Boston Acoustic MS 4000 S home theater system. however, now that i am checking the reviews online, it seems both the items are no longer in production and seems to be out of date.

my questions is simple, should i keep it or try to sell it and get something else. i am more interested in performance rather than the system being up to date.

Have you ever heard of Quad, I bought my 33/303 set up 30 yrs ago! still sounds great. If you can find Tannoy speakers (Reds or Golds) for sale, a good pair will cost more than they did nearly 40yrs ago. Good equipment should last a long time.

If you like it keep it and enjoy the sound, set it up the way you like it and have fun.

Hope this helps, thanks for using Fixya

Denon AVR-1604 too large front speakers blew the avr

Try disconnecting the speakers at the receiver. turn it on radio or any other source and turn up the volume. If the receiver still shuts of, there is an internal capacitor issue and needs serviced. More than likely though, it's a speaker problem. If the speakers were underpowered and at max volume, chances are the damage was to a voice coil in one of the speakers. If the receiver continues to stay on without being connected it's ok. check your speaker wires as well. Frequently loose braids on wires touch each other and create very little resistance until turned up, more volume, more resistance. Then the receiver puts itself into protection mode so no damage will occur. If you need further help, post a comment and I can help you troubleshoot further.

Denon AVR -1604 Powers off after 3 seconds

Check in the amp section for a short on the output transistors. It may need a resistor or two also. I doubt that it would be in the power supply.

B Speakers: Rear A Speakers and Sub stay on

First, check you wiring. Have you tried to turn off all speakers then turn on only the "B" set?

Might also be your "surround" settings. Try a "2" channel mode if available.
