You are gonna have to take this apart, lay flat on table to remove the cover.first look at the power supply board, you are looking for swollen caps(round canaster-one side is marked - in black meaning negative.this tv came with 2 versions of power supply.part numbers 272217100569 phillips or DPS-279CP A delta.if you do not see any bad caps look for a bad fuse, replace if bad.if it blows the fuse again inverter boards, part numbers 6636L-0022A and6636-0021A.all of these parts are available at shopjimmy.com,just type in model number, scroll down to find any of these parts.

42 inch Phillips LCD TV turns itself off after only a minute or two no flashing light

I had the same problem for 3 days. Remove all inputs to the TV and turn it on again. If it stays on for any length of time you're half way there. While the TV is on, go to the picture format menu and change it from automatic to widescreen. This worked well in my case, but still think there may be an underlying problem with the input circuit. Good luck!

Now using an hdmi to dvi cable - screen size has reduced

Your digital box should have aspect settings as well. When watching HD TV and or movies there is a possibility to get the black bars on top and bottom. It all depends on the ratio it was filmed in.

Philips 42PF7320A cropping issue

Pete,

When using a hd connection on a philips tv and (I am assuming this is the case) the tv disables the format features on the tv and only lets you select widescreen and automatic, if you are using hd adjust the picture size from the cable/satellite box, look for it in the box's menu system or on the remote, it is usually labeled, aspect ratio, zoom, format or something to that nature, hope I helped you
