Lens makes noise when camera is turned on/off

We used the camera at a soccer game last night. It worked fine and to my knowledge wasn't dropped. When we got to the car my husband turned it on to show me some pics he took and the lens comes out but it makes a very wierd noise. Same thing when turned off. Any ideas??

I had the same problem and took it back to where I purchased it (5 months previous) and had it sent away for repair. I was asked if there was any sand in the lens or if I dropped it (no to both) Turned out that the lens had to be replaced due to malfunction.

Sony a350. Camera motor makes grinding noise when turning on and off. Noise lasts 1-2 seconds. Was not dropped or bumped. Local camera shop said lens not camera.

A few years ago that noise was extremely common on almost all body motor driven AF lenses, and it's not exactly uncommon these days.

Your kit lens is not bad, but it is built down to a price as a get-you-started measure. It's not built as well as the upgrade alternatives and is certainly not built to last nor with repairs in mind.

Your fix is to eventually replace your lens, preferably with one which has a built in motor which will be near silent and far faster to focus. Note that if your lens has become harder work for your camera body focus motor to operate then it will put an extra strain on the motor and can shorten it's lifespan.

I need help setting my Canon EOS Rebel XSi. I was taking photos of my son's soccer game last evening and most of them came out blurry. What setting/s should I set my camera on to get great night shots of...

First of all, don't use the flash...it's only good for a short distance. Obviously, you need a fast shutter speed to stop the action. To get this to happen while in auto mode, you will need to set the ISO to a higher number such as 800 or 1600. You will need to take a couple of test shots to find the correct setting.

Casio xilim s770..problem : camera turns ..lens

hi,you have problem in lens gear that why you heard a weird noise or what you said buzzes.sometimes the cuase of excessive force or impact from the lens it will damage the gear or misallign and not only felldown or drop will damage the camera. Its also affect the sand or dust goes inside of your lens thats whay the gear not work properly.

if you have knowledge repairing electronic its better you need to check the lens gear, cable and len barrel if all of this are ok. if not bring to service center for estimation first before you proceed to repair.

godd luck and thank you my friend

Broken Lense

try these:-
  • connect it to pc and on it
  • vaccum the barrel of lens
  • changing mem. card and batt. for 2min.
  • shake it.
  • on and off in different positions
  • hit the part near lens softly with palm (trust me this made mine work)

My optio was dropped with the lens going down first. now my camera makes noises & the screen is black. how do i go about fixing it?

looks like the gears or retracting mechanics are damaged.

its problably not worth to take it in, to get it fixed (depends on the camera). but most likely sound like the gears are busted.

you be paying for repairs that costing waaay more than the camera.

Lens will not zoom in or out

Brush off any lose dirt from both the lens and bayonet mount and the autofocus drive shaft . If you are still not getting camera to auto focus your lenses have an expert look at the body : this is not an expensive problem to repair on these Pentaxes either a small mechanical problem or the connection to the pc board is bad. In either case only the front of the camera has to be dismantled ( +- 1 hour of labour to do the whole job ).
