1 Answer

The tank lid isn't sealing to the machine, leaving a gap between the lid and machine and therefore not drawing the water back into the tank

How much dirty water should end up in the recovery tank? I'm not getting back but a fraction of the water that goes out BACK IN... It's a heated model. Is the water evaporationg or is something wrong?...

About 3/4 of the water dispensed should be extracted. If not, there are a couple possibilities. If the float assembly in the lid of the dirty water tank has a mesh filter on it, be sure there is a gap of about 1/2 inch between the top of the filter, and the bottom of the lid. Without this gap the recovery of dirty water will be prematurely stopped. Another problem could be that the pick up nozzle is not making good contact with the carpet. This occurs if the machine has been dropped on it's nose and the screws holding it firmly in place have broken loose from the plastic.

This machine will blow air instead of ****. Any advice?

The most common reason no suction up is that the lid is not fully seated on the dirty water tank. Be sure to hook the two tabs on the front of the lid, and then snap the rear latch into place. Another reason is that the duct on the front of the dirty water tank is missing. The duct may have been removed to install the hose, and was not put back in place. It is a square plastic piece, about the size of a slice of sandwich bread, which slides into the front of the tank. A far less common reason for no pick-up is that the seal that the tank sits on has fallen off the motor cover suction tube. You will see a round tube on the bottom of the dirty water tank. This sits on top of a large rubber seal on the motor cover when the tank is in place. Be sure the seal has not fallen down into the hood. Warm air is normally blown out through the bottom of the machine to warm the carpet.

Re hoover 5914-900/the yellow ball keeps automatically sealing almost as soon as turned on/the mesh filter appears to be clear

Be sure to leave a gap of about 3/4 of an inch between the top of the filter, and the lid of the tank. Without this gap, the ball will shut off the suction prematurely.

My machine is only a few months old and has worked perfectly until now. I cannot get the machine to pull the solution back into dirty tank. I have tried the suggestion with the lid and that did not help....

A friend of mine has a bissell pro heat 2x, which wont vacuum back the water from the carpet on the main floor setting, the hose will spray and vaccuum back. how would i resolve this? if it is a matter of...

First check the motor duct gasket. The motor duct gasket is visible once the tank is removed. It is located underneath the handle on the top of the base of the machine. It has a black rubber coating around it. If there is no suction there please let us know. If your machine does have suction at the duct, continue to check the following:

- Ensure the Ready Tools Dial is set to the appropriate setting (Floor Cleaning or Hose Attachments).
- Remove the tank from the machine and ensure the tank lid is attached properly. The front window must first hook onto the lip of the bottom of the tank and then drape over the tank. Latch the bottom tank to the top tank lid. THIS LID CANNOT BE ATTACHED PROPERLY IF THE TANK IS NOT REMOVED FROM THE MACHINE.
- Make sure the Water Tank is not full on the outside of the bladder. If it is, empty the tank.
- Ensure the hose is firmly attached to the back of the machine. If not, re-insert as necessary by twisting into place.
- The machine must be in an upright, locked position and set to the Hose Attachment setting. If the handle is slightly tilted back while using, it will create a small gap at the suction inlet (where handle meets gasket, above the Bottom Tank) which will cause little or no suction.
- Check the red Tank Lint Screen for debris. If the Lint Screen is dirty, the unit will have poor suction. Clean the Lint Screen if necessary.
- If the float flap door in the tank lid is activating prematurely when you turn the machine on, this flap door should be replaced. This tank may need to be emptied.
- Check the Tank Lid and Tank for damage.

Having trouble

Make sure that the lid for the recovery tank is locked down all of the way around. Sometimes it doesn't catch on the back. There also may be a foam filter inside of the recovery tank lid. Make sure there is at least a 1/4 in. gap from the top. One other filter is from the bottom, it has a red frame, pull it out far enough to clean it. One other thing is the duct installed in front of the recovery tank, if not, no suction.

Puts solution down will not extract

On the inside of the recovery tank lid, the foam filter, if it is all of the way up to the top of the lid, lower it to leave about a 1/4 in. gap. The red filter at the bottom is clogged. The lid is not locked onto the tank, these are the main reasons when you don't have suction.

How to use

This happens when the filter on the inside of the lid for the dirty water tank is pushed all of the way up. You need to leave a 1/4 in. gap from the top to the top of the filter, or the lid for the dirty water tank is not locked on top of tank.
