Once a file is corrupt it cannot be saved. (I have dealt with numerous Fallout and Skyrim corrupt saves on Ps3 if I could have saved them I would) Assassins creed black flag is known to have some problems with corrupts but i thought that they were patched (check to see if its up to date)
This is natural, the PS3 does not stretch the signal like the Xbox does so games play at there native resolution (720p) there is nothing wrong with your TV or your PS3 and you would not see any difference in the games graphics if it was in 1080i. I'm playing my PS3 on a 46" 1080p TV and my PS3 games look great in 720p.
It may be a resolution setting issue...the game may be outputting in a resolution that your tv doesnt support. Try going to your video settings and knocking the resolution back to 720p for your HDMI output....in settings under video, select your ouptut, and uncheck the boxes next to the types above 720p. Also make sure you have latest software update for ps3.
Apparently the PS3 version of Assassin's Creed freezes the PS3 but this only happens at certain points in the game where a load happens. I don't think this is the case for you since you're saying that it doesn't even load the game.
Secondly, what do you have it connected to? SDTV or HDTV? Sometimes if the signal selected is not supported by the TV, it will not show anything.
Lastly, I would try to perform a system update by connected it to the Internet. This will download firmware 2.00 and might be able to help aleviate your issues.
Good luck. BTW, not a bad time to pick up a PS3. some good games coming next year :)
If you all are still having this problem, this is what I had to do. There are 2 places where you have to go in to and delete the assassins creed game data. One is the normal save data, but there is also a place with the game data that is corrupted. If you go in and delete both the save data AND the game data, it should reload all of that the next time you put the disk in and allow you to play.
