Jenn air cook top with oven Model D146-C

The electric element grill side of the range just stopped heating up. The fan also stopped working. All this happened while I was cooking steaks. I was using the oven and the one other burner as well.

We've seen similar problems due to an intermittent failure in the control board. If you can have it removed we can likely repair it for you.

The switch for the optional grill attachment is activating...pull the tray/pan on the left side that holds the two burner grates toward the should shut off. To correct the problem permanently, you'll need to adjust the position of the switch. The switch gets lose over time and slides on its mount until it gets out of range. The purpose of the switch is to activate the blower continuously when using the optional grill accessory. When you remove the left-side grates and the tray/pan the grates set'll notice a protruding piece of metal on the front of tray/pan that fits into a hole in the cavity where the tray sits. Inside that hole is the switch that is out of position. Getting at the switch to adjust its position is not difficult, but you need to remove the upper front panel...KLS

The clean cycle requires both heating elements to run at the same time.
Since your oven is a 220volt, each heating element will require their own 110v source to heat the oven. This means that the stovetop elements will need to be disabled to prevent the breaker from tripping since the cleaning cycle requires a lot of electricity to do it's job.

There is not enough wattage left over to both clean and cook, this is why cleaning is recommend during a time in which you will not be using your oven.

I have a Tecnik Range cooke that was in the house when i bought it. The secong oven has no cover for the heating element at the top so everything I put in browns at the top. Should this oven have a metal plate underneath so that I can use it as a conventional oven or should it be like that

Stopping cold air

Depending on where it is vented you probably wont be able to stop the air. Take the grill out and see if there is a door flap that is supposed to close when the fan is off. If not your out of luck.
