Question about NetGear : WG111 54 Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter, RETAIL (DSNGWG111)

1 Answer

Netgear wireless USB adaptor (WG112v2) compatibility problem

I use my netgear wireless USB adaptor (WG112v2) to connect my laptop (Compaq Presario 2700) to the internet; it appears I do so (according to status bar, I have a good signal), but with some WiFi connections I cannot then actually open web pages using either Mozilla or Internet Explorer browsers, getting instead an Address Not Found message saying "the browser could not find the host server". Are there any compatibility issues with the wireless adaptor and other hubs, or is this an error on my laptop itself? I'd be very grateful for any guidance / help on this problem.

Can I upgrade my wireless lan on my compaq laptop. I find some of the newer laptops wireless connections seem stronger. Like this laptop though and it performs great other than that. Have upgraded hard...

First advice, don't buy Compaq. The only laptop I'd spend any significant money on is a Dell. For portability and incredible battery life, I rely on my Acer Aspire One D150-1165. A steal of a deal at $350 from MicroCenter.

It is possible to replace the wireless NIC, depending on whether they built it into the mainboard. Google around, you'll find the answer. The quickest answer is to just plug in a USB adaptor. I prefer either Netgear or Belkin.

Usb wireless adapter for Compaq Presario 5000

Most netgear adapters will work.
They're around £20 and will connect to pretty much everything =)
They work on windows, from 98 i think. So aslong as the old tower has a sort-of up to date OS then it'll connect for you :)

Hope it helps.

Wireless connection of netgear wireless router for compaq laptop

When you look on the box that the router came in, you have to look to see what Operating Systems it is compatible with. In many cases, routers will not be compatible with vista. I have a Linksys WRT300N, and it works great with Vista.Hope this helps.
