In the fuel line is a disk type filter see if its clogged. air compressor pressure should be 3.0 - 3.5 psi.

ruppguy,

All the time.

You have a classic reddy heat problem. They use a system which sets the fuel pump pressure with bleed air. Comes out the back where there is a screw. If the pressure is not 4.5 psig the pump will pump too much or in your case too little fuel. This happens when the air filter plugs and changes the ratio. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4124129-yearly_maintenance_reddy_heaters which explains the problem, how to fix it and where to get the parts at the best price.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating. Please consider a testimonial. Thank you.

Reddy heater 40000 btu ker/forcedair plug it in it takes off for a little while then shutsoff

First thing is to download the service manual.

http://www.desaparts.com/service_manuals.html

You need to make sure the filters are clean and that you are getting the proper air pump pressure.

If the units starts up and runs good and slowly goes out it will normally be due to a lack of fuel getting to the nozzle. When there is not enough fuel being delivered to the nozzle from either a clogged fuel filter of dirty air pump output filter the unit will slowly shut down from lack of fuel.

If the unit shuts down while it is running properly and the nose come is orange then you probably have a problem with a photocell or the flame out control.

Thanks

What is the model number? Could be a number of things, depending on which technology is used on your particular 55,000 btu heater.
