Re: hd install

Enter BIOS, at start up press Delete key every couple of seconds. PC vary, some require pressing the F1 key or F2 and others reqire F10. Once in the BIOS you'll need change your boot order. Again PC's BIOS's vary. Usually Floppy is first, CDROM second and Hd 3'rd. Save Bios and restart. If you boot media is a floppy disk your PC will go there 1'st, than to the CDROM. If boot media still is not seen. Check connectors to the floppy and or CD make sure cables and power connectors are tight.

I am trying to reload my operateing system w. disc that came with emachine t 5048,its not recignizing the dics, wiill read any disk but that 1???It came w. computer when i bought it. disk is perfect,no...

At power on, enter the bios (usually by tapping a function key like Tab or Del or F2) and change the boot device order to have the CD drive first. Put the disc in the disc drive. Save and continue. Now, you may get a message asking you to "press any key to boot to the CD". Touch any key, and the reload should start.

Installed new harddrive, installed winxp pro all is fine, except i cannot change the boot sequence, it goes from cd to the 4th which is hard drive, and when changing them around they all jump 2 at a time,...

You need to set your Bios setting to read which ever port you want it to read first. You can usually enter your Bios settings by pushing your F2 key when you first start up. (you might want to look at your specific manual first) Once you enter your BIOS, then you can set which port (device) you want first. If you are no longer needing your disk drive to start first (usually set for first installs on new HD) then set your HD on the top of the list. Good Luck.22

Laptop computer will not boot, error 'Can not read A: drive', a drive not installed

Check in your CMOS to make sure that your computer isn't searching for the A: drive, set it to disabled or off. Sometimes you need to tell the computer that the A drive doesn't exist, or it will always try to boot from it, regardless of what the boot sequence is set to.

Windows won't boot after an OS upgrade

The board is probably good but I've seen this many times when folks try to upgrade old computers. The drivers included with XP aren't working on your machine. It's not working with W2K because when you formatted the HD with XP it removed the IBM label from the HD. You should use your recovery disks to restore the drive.

Hard Drive Prevents any other windows device from loading

Hi, Mark Here.
Yes the setup on the xp install puts drivers into memory, but being an older version of windows B4 sta was out it does not have drivers to support it.

You could go to Microsoft & search for a new version of setup install drivers that includes sta, & download to thumb.
Really typical Windows Failure (driver not available freeze up or blue screen).

Hard drive not found

Wayneard is correct. When you install a brand new hard drive as the ONLY hard drive in the computer, there is no operating system loaded. The computer will try to boot from the hard drive and stop. Switch your boot order to have the CD boot first, and be sure you have the operating system installation CD in your CD drive.

Also, double check your hard drive connections. Be sure it is in the "master" position on the hard drive cable. If there is a connection problem, the system will complain after CD start that there is no hard drive available to install the operating system on!

Good luck.
