Question about Intel Motherboard

1 Answer

I have an old ''Fountain P.C.'' with an INTEL 80386/25NC motherboard, ca. 1990-98. The memory backup rechargable battery is shot. The battery is 3.6volt 50mAh sealed NiCd with solder tabs at each end, manufactured by GS-SAFT LTD., SAFT Rechargable Battery Systems. Model: GB 50 H-3. Where can I obtain this memory backup battery or a suitable alternative. Would a ''3.6volt 60 mAh'', be a suitable replacement?

I use to use a AA battery holder purchased from Radio shack and 4 rechargeable AA and solder them in place and that should do the trick.\
2. you can do a google for All Electronics to see if they have the correct battery to insert in to the holder.
Hope this helps/ this may or may not work due to the motherboard configuration. I have used it in the past on older boards that needed a battery that was hard to find or no longer manufactured.

Battery not recognize

How old is the battery? It could be that the charger killed the battery; that is if it's early in life (less that 3 months old) if it's a year of more old it's a good chance that the battery is shot. Depending on the battery type, rechargeable have very specific duty cycle. You don't just plug them in all the time. You use it till it's at least 85% to 90% discharged before recharging them. If you don't they don't last very long.

Sounds like your memory is bad. If you have 2 memory sticks, take one out and try it. Then swap the other one out. If you have only one stick of memory, see if you can find another memory stick of the same type and try it.

My laptop won't turn on even though it's plugged into the recharg

Try removing the battery and running the laptop just on the p/s. If it works like this the battery is dead. Otherwise the laptop has a problem.

If the battery is dead, buy a new battery or run it on p/s alone.

Laptops should be run on battery alone as much as possible, or the battery dies.

Change the backup battery in MC9060

Hello mis1539. I think I can help you here. First: are you sure the backup battery is defunct? Bear in mind that the backup battery takes about 15 hours to fully charge and will discharge if the main battery or power source is disconnected or goes completely dead for anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours. If the backup battery discharges, the process starts all over and the backup battery will need to be charged for 15 hours again. If you think the backup battery may have discharged at some point, it could be that it never full re-charged so it will discharge and lose your settings (cache/flash memory) almost instantly. It is worth mentioning that about 95% of my clients that have this problem have fixed it by simply making sure that the unit is in it's cradle, with the battery in and charging overnight to fully recharge the backup. Again, I really would implore you to give this a shot before resorting to cracking open the unit and getting to the backup battery (which is no fun task, I assure you). If this doesn't work for you, please let me know and I can help you further. I hope this solves your problem. Good luck!

CMOS is a memory chip on your computer that stores BIOS information as well as system clock. It powered by a 3V backup battery. If your computer is more then 3 years old it is possible that the backup battery on your PC needs to be replaced. Replace your battery then go to BIOS setup and adjust your date and time. But it is also possible that the clock is a bit off, so first your can just try to adjust your clock without replacement of the battery. You can also do it inside the windows from control panel. Be sure you have a correct time zone.

Good Luck!

Digital still camera

Hey rolvnetr,
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S700 Digital Camera should be powered by 2 AA batteries. There are 3 main varieties of AA batteries which are Alkaline, Lithium, and rechargeable NiMH batteries. I prefer Lithium batteries, but rechargeable batteries are also nice but once they start losing their charge it goes fast so have a backup set. You should be able to buy any of these batteries at most retailers, and of course our Best Buy™ stores carry these batteries.

Sincerely,
Allan
