Iphone does not ring in standby (sleep) mode

It could be a couple of issues, but I wanted to make sure of one first. Does this happen at specific times where you state "sleep mode", or anytime the screen is off? If you had a time set for Apples "Do Not Disturb" then you would need to change the time or disable it altogether. If this happens when a little moon icon is in the top near the clock then this is your issue. If this is not the case it could be the ringer switch, try moving it back and forth to ring and silent to test and also if you can replicate the issue while you are using it, plug in head phones to see if audio is working at all. Your issue could be something deeper within the phone if these items or not the case. It is always recommended to backup your iPhone and then do a full restore to see if it is a software issue. My work iPhone 4S has an issue while trying to ring and doesn't even play sounds when needed. In my case it is a hardware issue, but I am going to hold off for the iPhone 6. If it is a hardware issue then it could be covered by Apple's warranty if under one year. On any purchase I highly recommend Apple Care + to cover damage and up default warranty to two years. If you can supply any more details I would be glad to chime in on them.

You may please keep in mind that iPhone battery may drain instead of charge if iPhone is connected to a computer that's turned off or is in sleep or standby mode. If you charge the battery while syncing or using iPhone, it may take longer to charge. About not showing the charging icon, please try resetting the phone by pressing the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button both simultaneously after which the phone restarts after some time with apple logo on the screen. -- MS Ramakrishna

If something isn't working right, restarting, force quitting an application, or resetting
iPhone will likely solve the problem.
Restart iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and
hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
If you can't turn off iPhone or if the problem continues, you may need to reset. A reset
should be done only if turning iPhone off and on doesn't resolve the problem.
Force quit an application: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPhone
for a few seconds until a red slider appears, and then press and hold the Home button
until the application quits.
Reset iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the
same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

If iPhone won't turn on, or the display freezes or doesn't respond

1. Press and hold the Home button for at least six seconds, until the application you were using quits.
2. If that doesn't work, turn iPhone off and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPhone for a few seconds until a red slider appears, and then slide the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
3. If that doesn't work, reset iPhone. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

More resets:
Try This:
1. Remove Sim Card
2. Hold in 'Home' button and 'On/Off' button together until Apple logo appears
3. Replace Sim Card
4. Hold in 'Home' button and 'On/Off' button together until normal phone screen appears.


Also, Try this:
1.) Shut down the iPhone 3G.
2.) Start up iTunes
3.) Hold down HOME button on the iPhone 3G
4.) While keeping the HOME button depressed, plug in the Sync cable
5.) A message will pop up to ask if you want to reset.
6.) Just click YES and the reset process should start.

Download the Insomnia app through CYDIA. Phone must be jailbroken to install this.

This seemed to work for me;
1.) Reset the phones network settings
2.) Reboot the phone
3.) Put the phone in airplane mode
4.) Reboot the phone
5.) Take the phone out of airplane mode
6.) reboot the phone.
I read this on another website, and it seemed to work for me.
To reboot the iphone hold down the sleep/wake button, and the home button at the same time for 6 seconds (until the apple logo appears).

Take a back-up and restore it. That might work!!

I had the same problem with my iPhone the only way I was able to fix it was to re-flashed the latest 2.2 firmware. Power phone off, power on by holding power and home at same time, hold power for ten seconds and then release still holding home key for another 30 seconds to put phone in DFU mode. Then plug into iTunes it will detect phone in recovery mode and allow you to re-image

1. File manager in ipcsuite
/System/Library/SystemConfiguration/PowerManagement.bundle
2. Find the file:
com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefaults.plist
Then rename it to:
com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefaults.plist2

3. Reboot your phone

I fixed this issues on a friends iPhone.

Upgrade to version 1.1.4 - and you cannot restore your backup.
