New 99 Odyssey problem

By Janice - usenet poster

I just dropped my Odyssey off to have the fuel gauge looked
at....apparantly, it must be suffering the same fate as the Accord's guages
because the service writer had already called Honda and they said they were
alrealy working on a replacement.

This Problem has been added to the Share Your Expertise Page under "My Work Queue".

They share much of what is up front, including the gauge cluster which was
originally in question.  Radio, climate system, switches, all taken from the
Accord.

Actually, that's what Honda tried to do.  They designed it to appeal to
Accord owners/buyers, not just the minivan market.

The Odyssey EX also stole the 98-99 Accord Coupe EX V6 wheels.

:Why is this gall?  As I understand it the Sienna uses the same powertrain
:and suspension as the Camry.

That maybe true, but according to what I've read and a friend of mine (whose
family is a Toyota family), their Sienna is really [less good] than their
bubble van (Previa). To want to call any Toyota automobile the Camry of
_____ requires some sense of superiority, high quality, and reputation.

Plus, I read in C&D that they also felt that the Sienna was sub-par, and too
mediocre. Calling it the Camry of Minivans is just advertising gimmick,
plain and simple. That is gall.

:The Odyssey IS an Accord

Um... in what way? It doesn't share an engine or a platform. What then?
Okay, they share the same plastic "H" logo on their fronts and backs, they
share the same grey fabric, they share the Honda History of reliability.

Just because Toyota has the gall to call their Sienna "the Camry of
Minivans", doesn't mean the Odyssey is "the Accord of Minivans".

I beg to differ.........and it also depends on what you term "is an Accord".
The Odyssey shares a stretched version of the Accords platform, but that is
akin to saying the VW Beetle is a Jetta/Golf as they are built on the same
or similar platform.  Besides platform sharing is nothing new as many
automakers embrace this concept to save much time and money.  I'd be more
inclined to agree with your statement if you said "the Acura 3.2TL IS an
Accord"  as the two cars are built in the same factory and 80% of the parts
are shared.  Can the same be said of the Odyssey?

Sandro.
