I think you have the worng idea but ill try to explain it IDE and SATA are connections mainly used for harddrives and disc drives but if you want to use a IDE harddrive then its just as simple as plug and play you just plug it in to the motherboard plug a power connector in and switch on the machine as soon as it gets to bios the motherboard automaticly changes the IDE to the main drive and the SATA becomes 2nd. hope this helps

N1996 motherboard 4 fast bios beeps

The beeps actually refer to memory not just RAM, it could be the memory on your graphics card or the cache ram on your processor. Or it could be a compatibility issue between memory sticks.

Here's my issue. Ok i have 2 ram slots. When I have 2 1GB ram cards in the slots the computer registers 2GB ram. When I put in 2GB card and 1GB card, it only registers 2GB RAM. No idea why. I bought...

the issue may be the ram is not the same like a PC100 will not work with a PC300 ram card but if you have the same like a 2GB DDR2 and a 1GB DDR2 it will work unless your computer can only see 2GB of ram then i cannot help you

I need more memory for my desktop. How do I find out what kind of memory board my Northgate computer takes? It is about 7 years old.

Hello.
You need to know the mainboard model no. Then, search for the product on the manufacturer's website and you will see what type of RAM memory it needs.

My system says, (RAM) radon access memory low cpu intel (r) pentium 4 cpu, version 2.80 ghz. RAM 256 mb. What can I do to resolve this problem. Dell 4700 dimension

Windows XP requires a "bare-minimum" of 128MB of RAM, works "OK" with your 256MB of RAM, if you don't open too many programs at the same time, and if you close/re-open Internet Explorer about once an hour of usage.

But, Windows XP would be _much_ "happier" if you added 256MB or 512MB of RAM, because it is telling you ("available random access memory is low") that it is using all the RAM.

Add more RAM -- your computer will run much better.

Will a newer monitor work with my older 2.4ghz cpu

Upgrading a monitor does not require uparading the RAM or the video card on your computer unless you want to run graphic intensive video games.

I try to put 2 ram chips (matching) into my computer and it wont register the second ram chip. the computer just beeps really loudly

If you are getting the problem in the RAM slot then try both the RAM 1 by 1 in that slot only. And start your pc.

Otherwise there is a fault in your motherboard and you need to go the service center.

My Dell C610 won't reconize the second stick of 256 mb memory

As the computer boots, it detects the additional memory and automatically updates the system configuration information
where did you get the memory?
If it is in properly and does't work,it is either bad or the wrong part number for your Dell C610
